Jerry Lee "Elvis" Farmer Sr., 55 of Great Bend, died Sept. 21 at Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson. Born March 21, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Benjamin Hulon and Floy Jean (Waggoner) Farmer. On Dec. 21, 1984, he married Deborah Wintholz in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 28 years, coming from Harrison, Ark., he was a CNA for Larned Healthcare.
ST. JOHN - John Florez Garcia, 52, died Sept. 21 at Stafford County Hospital. Born May 23, 1958, in St. John, he was the son of Modesto and Ventura Garcia. A life-long resident of St. John, he was director of staff development at Res-Care Pathways from 1987-2010.

Clifton Paris Gunnels, 84, of Great Bend, died Sept. 22 at Cherry Village in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 16, 1925, at Climax, the son of George Washington and Sarah Aileen (McComb) Gunnels. Orval Aldrich Hejny, 89, of Great Bend, died Sept. 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Barton County, at the farm of his parents, Aldrich and Rose (Serpan) Hejny. A graduate of Hoisington High School, he served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class on the battleship USS Idaho and Petty Officer First Class on the destroyer escort USS Connally DE-306. He farmed and raised registered polled Herefords.
Dewey Dean Haddon, 72, of Great Bend, died Sept. 20 in rural Reno County. He was born July 20, 1938, at Great Bend, the son of Dewey Clifford and Ethel Viola (Flanders) Haddon. He married Janet Eklund on May 27, 1956, at Stafford. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was a farmer.

CANTON - Carl D. Morgan, 64, former Canton businessman, died Sept. 18 in rural Ulysses. He was born March 2, 1946, in Syracuse, the son of Fred E. and Valera (Graham) Morgan. He was an auto mechanic and retired from Excel Industries in Hesston. On May 8, 1971, he married Helen Bahr at Olmitz. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1994. He married Cathy Strobel on April 29, 1995, in Great Bend, and she survives.

BISON - Shirley O. Cannady, 98, of Bison, died Sept. 16 at the Rush County Nursing Home, La Crosse. She was born March 16, 1912, at Altoona, the daughter of Harry F. and Nettie C. (Wright) Davis. She married Paul M. Cannady on May 22, 1938, at Wichita. He died April 25, 1997. Mrs. Cannady was a resident of Bison since 1998, moving from Neodesha. She was a homemaker.
Gerhardt Lavern Nuss, 86, died Aug. 1 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. Born June 15, 1924, in Hoisington, he was the son of Reinholt and Mollie (Beisel) Nuss. On Sept. 18, 1942, he married Delora McCullough in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a truck driver for Airco, Glass King and Elliott Transfer. He was owner and operator of Nuss Triangle Station and later worked for IGA and Waters True Value.
OBERLIN - DeeAnna E. Krizek, 77, died Aug. 9 at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin. Born April 7, 1937, in Oberlin, she was the daughter of Gordon and Esther (Leitner) Rathbun. In 1955 she graduated from Decatur Community High School. On Aug. 4, 1957, she married Bennie Krizek in Oberlin. Living on the Krizek family farm north of Jennings, she was a homemaker.
