Donald W. "Don" Shorock, 66, died Dec. 2, 2010 at his Great Bend home. He was born June 7, 1944 at Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of Walter and Isobel (McCutcheon) Shorock. He married Nora Jean Doubek July 4, 1976 at Pratt. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1977, coming from Cunningham, Mr. Shorock was an employment specialist for the state of Kansas. Dixie L. Link, 78, died Dec. 2 at Clare Bridge Assisted Living in Wichita. Born Aug. 5, 1932 in Hutchinson, she was the daughter of Lester Simpson and Bessie Erdman. She was a Wichita resident for the past two years, formerly of Salina, Hays, Plainville and Henderson, Nev. and Stillwater, Okla.
HUTCHINSON - Marcella Angeline Stitt, 94, died Nov. 28 at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson. Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Mitchell, in Rice County, she was the daughter of Fred Nodurft and Grace Troyer Nodurft. She graduated from Sterling College and received her master's degree in Latin from the University of Kansas. On Dec. 23, 1938, she married Sam C. Stitt Jr. in Topeka. He died April 3, 1991. TOPEKA -Robert Edward Lee, 66, Topeka, died Nov. 30. Bob was born June 10, 1944, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Schubert and Loreen Martin Lee. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1962. He was employed by Kansas Gas Service Co., was a car salesman, an auctioneer, worked for Famous Brands and was an Auburn-Washburn school bus driver. Bob was an avid athlete. He played softball for many years and loved to play golf. He had a special place in his heart for his animals.

Cora Hause, 66, died Nov. 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born April 1, 1944, at Belfast, Ireland, the daughter of John and Sadie (Craig) Jennix. She married Floyd Elmer Bowman on June 4, 1971, at Wintergreen, Calif. He died Jan. 29, 1998. She married Clyde Hause in 2005 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1974, coming from Missouri, she worked for Fuller Brush and Great Bend Packing.
LARNED - Blanche Mary Fern Courtney, 94, died Nov. 28 at her daughter's home in Sumter, S.C. She was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Franklin County, the youngest child of Charles and Clara Curtis Adams. A former resident of Larned, moving from Gove in 1956, she retired in 1978 from Larned State Hospital where she was a psychiatric aide. She completed a year of college at Emporia State Teachers College and then taught school in western Kansas.
Orval Otte, 97, died Nov. 30 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. Born Sept. 13, 1913, at Great Bend, he was the son of W.C. and Georgia Mae (Miller) Otte. He married Helen Genevieve Taylor on Aug. 16, 1936, at Great Bend. She died April 17, 1970. He married Edra Mae (Brown) Hudnall on Oct. 29, 1971, at Great Bend. She died Sept. 8, 2007. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a farmer and stockman.
HOISINGTON - Phillip D. Chapman, 70, died Nov. 28 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Dec. 17, 1939, at Crescent, Okla., the son of Oras Virgil and Cecil (Tabler) Chapman. He was a resident of Hoisington for 65 years, moving from Crescent, Okla.
William V. "Bill" VanSkike, 87, of Great Bend, died Nov. 29 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born May 21, 1923, in rural Arkansas City, the son of Harry and Mary Anna (Bossi) VanSkike. He married Grace Ellen Dickson on Sept. 3, 1950, at El Dorado. CIMARRON – Harry "Rudy" R. Louis, 68, died Nov. 28 at the Shepherd's Center, Cimarron. He was born Dec. 29, 1941, at Wichita, the son of Harry Edward and Madge Alberta Stone Louis. He received his Specialty Degree from UCLA. He taught school for six years in Pratt and in 1974 developed the middle school in Hugoton. He was a school administrator for 32 years, serving as high school principal in Holcomb and Cimarron, and retired in June 2002.
Sister Coletta Masterson, 90, died Nov. 29 in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary, Great Bend. Born Sept. 19, 1920, in Clonmel, as Magdalen Ellen Masterson, Sister Coletta was the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa Marx Masterson. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community on Aug. 31, 1935, and pronounced her first vows Aug. 17, 1938. She celebrated 70 years of religious profession in 2008.
ELLIS - Irene C. Boos, 90, of Ellis, died Nov. 26 at her home. She was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Pfeifer, to Anton and Barbara (Unrein) Leiker. She married Paul P. Boos on Aug. 9, 1938, in Hays. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2004. Irene lived most of her life on a farm south of Ellis where she was a homemaker and a partner with her husband working on the family farm.
Barbara Olene Keeley, 78, died Nov. 28 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Sept. 6, 1932, in Geneva, Neb., she was the daughter of Edgar B. and Lettie (Peugh) Foster. She graduated from North Platte High School in Nebraska and received her RN license from St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, Colo. She later attained her Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Hays State University. She served in many capacities as a nurse for more than 40 years. Verl Lee Martin, 84, died December 8 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born August 5, 1930, at Utica, the son of Clade and Sylvia (Everhart) Martin. A Great Bend resident since 1971, he worked for Missouri-Pacific Truck Lines and Turner Farms as a truck driver.
Daniel Nobles, 88, died Dec. 7 at Life Care Center, Wichita. Born Feb. 21, 1926, at Stuttgart, Ark., he was the son of Cagie, Sr. and Georgia B. (Stewart) Nobles. He married Alice Mary Cushinberry on Dec. 18, 1947, at Hoisington. She died March 6, 2014. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was facilities manager for the Great Bend Post Office.
Frank E. Thurman, 65, of Great Bend, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 5, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born Sept. 25, 1949, in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was the son of Arthur and Ethel (Deeder) Thurman. On June 29, 2000, he was united in marriage to Mary Walsh in Council Grove. A Great Bend resident since 2006, having moved here from Alta Vista, he loved NASCAR, and had a passion for fixing up old cars and spending precious time with his grandchildren.
HOISINGTON - Teresa Marie Rome, 87, died Dec. 9 at her home Hoisington. Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Odin, she was the daughter of Frank and Antoinette (Hermann) Gerritzen. In 1955, she married Norbert Joseph Rome. He died on June 6, 1981. A longtime resident of Hoisington, she worked as a dietary aide for Clara Barton Hospital. She enjoyed playing pinochle and watching her grandchildren's activities.

He was a 1948 graduate of Great Bend High School and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1953. On Sept. 28, 1958, he married Loreta J. "Reta" Hill in Hoisington. HOISINGTON - Velma H. McMillin, 90, died Dec. 4 at Via Christi Hospital, St. Francis, in Wichita. Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Melvern, she was the daughter of Oscar and Hazel (Goldsmith) Beck. On Nov. 30, 1940, she married H.D. McMillin in Ottawa. He died July 23, 1993. A resident of Hoisington since 1940, she worked as a florist for many years and she was also the co-owner of Trinkets and Treasures, an antique shop in Hoisington. She was an avid sports fan cheering for the Chiefs, Kansas University and the Green Bay Packers.
