BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.

RANSOM - Father David H. Kraus, 72, a retired priest of the Diocese of Dodge City, died April 28, 2013, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Ransom, the son of Hugo and Alice (Hilmes) Kraus. He graduated from Arnold High School, and attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, before transferring to Conception Seminary College in Conception, Mo. There he earned bachelor's degrees in Philosophy and Sacred Theology.

NESS CITY - Rosalinda C. Gaschler, 89, passed away April 21, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on Jan. 3, 1924 in Ness County, she was the daughter of John and Anna Mary Haas Wasinger. On Aug. 19, 1946 she married Carl Gaschler in Ness City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1984. She worked with her husband at Gaschler Jewelry.

A lifetime area resident, he was the owner and operator of the Best Western Motel in Larned. On March 8, 1949, he married Faith Kimbrough in Hiawatha. She died on Dec. 13, 1981. Michael Wayne Kirkman, 62, died June 7 at his home in Midwest City, Okla. Born Nov. 6, 1950 in Great Bend, he was the son of Wayne and Carolyn (Nowles) Kirkman. On Aug. 12, 1972, he married Gail Broadbooks in Great Bend. They later divorced. A longtime resident of Great Bend and Pratt, residing in Midwest City, Okla. for three years, he was an oilfield salesman for W.L. Kirkman, Inc., until his retirement.

ELLINWOOD - A celebration of life memorial gathering for Melvin L. Krom will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with Pastor Doyle Smith officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. A lunch for family and friends will be served at 1 p.m. before services.

A resident of Great Bend, formerly longtime Ellinwood resident, he worked as an oil field supervisor for Stevens Well Service and maintenance supervisor for Grove Park Golf Course in Ellinwood.
