VALLEY CENTER - Lucille P. Hester, 84, died Nov. 9 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of William Glenn and Nellie B. (Westover) Gruber. On April 18, 1946, she married Raymond J. Hester in Hoisington. He died Dec. 20, 1985. A resident of Valley Center since 1958, moving from Hoisington, she was a retired cook for USD #262 in Valley Center.
ELLINWOOD - Mary Eileen McQuade, 87, died Nov. 9 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. She was born July 10, 1923, at Frontenac, the daughter of Joseph Charles and Anne Virginia Kelly Lavery. She had been an Ellinwood resident since 1958. She married Peter John McQuade on Feb. 19, 1945, at Frontenac. He died Oct. 31, 2003. She was a homemaker and worked at a munitions plant in southeast Kansas during World War II. She was a secretary for Mount Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg and for Kan/Colo Credit Union in Ellinwood.

LARNED - June Alene Berglund, 87, died Nov. 9 at Larned Healthcare Center, Larned. She was born June 29, 1923, in Sanford, the daughter of Harry L.S. and Marie Henrietta Detzen Meckfessel. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, she was a homemaker and worked as an office clerk for the Pawnee County Treasurer's Office for 17 years.

NEWTON - William "Bill" Alexander, 59, died Nov. 7 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. He was born May 24, 1951, in Denver, Colo. He graduated from Mound City High School and went on to complete two years at Fort Scott Junior college. He served three years with the United States Navy. Following that, he wisely used the G.I. Bill to further his education and attended Wichita State University and achieved his bachelor's degree, followed by his Physician's Assistant Degree. On Aug. 14, 2006, he married Tamera J. Clark in Newton.
KELLER, Texas - Berneice Rachel Hillman, 85, passed away Nov. 2. She was born Berneice Rachel Nuss in Susank on Sept. 3, 1925. On Oct. 2, 1943, she married Frank Guy Hillman.
ELLINWOOD - Dolores Keenan Bryant, 82, died Nov. 5 at Overland Park. She w as born Sept. 5, 1928, at Great Bend, the third child and second daughter of a family of eight children born to Thomas and Martha Sheils Keenan. She married Lloyd W. Bryant on Nov. 24, 1949, at Seward. He died July 12, 2006. She was a longtime Ellinwood resident and owner of Bryant TV & Radio in Ellinwood for 40 years. She later owned and operated Riverside Petroleum for the next 20 years. She graduated from Meade High School.

Robert J. "Bob" Tittel, 56, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 5, at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born on Jan. 23, 1958 in Ness City, he was the son of Benhardt and Hildegard Frieda Emma (Schettler) Tittel. In 1976, he graduated from Ness City High School, and that same year he moved to Great Bend. A longtime Great Bend resident, he worked for many years as a cable technician for CableVision in Great Bend until health issues prevented him from working. Bob was a bit of a Jack-of-all-trades, and enjoyed many activities, including auto body restoration.
James W. Herren, 92, died Oct. 6, at Sumner County Care Center in Wellington. Born June 24, 1922, in Great Bend, he was the son of George L. and Minda (Knighton) Herren. On July 10, 1978, he married Beverly A. Barnes in Wichita. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a supervisor for Kansas Foundation for the Blind.
