Norma M. Vasquez, 70, of Great Bend, died Oct. 27 at her home. She was born April 17, 1940, at Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Victorio and Manuela (Alonzo) Moreno. Norma worked as a seamstress. Mrs. Vasquez was a Great Bend resident since 1999, coming from Ontario, Calif.
OSAWATOMIE - Donald D. Smith, 85, died Oct. 29 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. He was born Sept. 16, 1925, at Hoisington, the son of Clarence and Callie (Payne) Smith. He married Etta Imogene Lumley on June 5, 1953, at Bartlesville, Okla. She died Oct. 9, 2004. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Kansas Brick and Tile of Hoisington. He was a former Hoisington resident, moving to Osawatomie in 2004.
WICHITA - Alice Arlene Metcalf, 79, retired co-owner/operator of Kansas Dune Buggy and VW Specialties, died Oct. 27, She was preceded in death by her husband Harold "Red" and grandson Adam Wayne Sharp.

MEDICINE LODGE - Lynn Ann Adams, 70, died Oct. 28 at Pioneer Lodge Nursing Home in Coldwater. Born July 24, 1940, in Great Bend she was the daughter of John and Marie (Mohr) Adams. She was a client at Arrowhead West Inc. in Medicine Lodge, most recently living in Coldwater.
PLANO, Texas - Georgia Louise Campbell, 87, died Oct. 27. She was born April 11, 1923, at Larned, the daughter of Charles DeWitt and Lucile (Hullett) Gilmore. She married William J. Campbell Jr. on Dec. 27, 1943, at Great Bend. He died Sept. 4, 2007. She lived in Great Bend, Wichita, Kansas City and Oklahoma City prior to moving to the Dallas area.
ANGELES CITY, Republic of Philippines - Dorothy Louise Haynes-Debes, 95, died Oct. 19 at Angeles City, the Philippines. Born March 12, 1915, at Elmer, Kan., she was the daughter of Noah and Lillian (Murray) Neal. She was baptized Jan. 29, 1927, by the Rev. J.R. Taylor at First Baptist Church, Sterling. Greg Schaben, 29, of Great Bend, died Oct. 27 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born July 31, 1981, at Great Bend, the son of Johnny and Yolanda (Schaben) Schaben. He was a truck driver for Farm Service Center and a lifetime Great Bend resident.
Danny K. Crane, 62, of Great Bend, died Oct. 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born Oct. 22, 1948, at Abilene, the son of Donald and Katherine (Barlow) Crane. He married Hazel Crane on Dec. 31, 1967, at Great Bend. He was publication editor for Lockheed Missiles in Space. Mr. Crane was a Great Bend resident since 1993, coming from Pleasanton, Calif.
William. D. "Bill" Bisterfeldt, 79, of Great Bend, died Oct. 25 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Bison, the son of George Henry and Almeda Viola (Hutchins) Bisterfeldt. He was a lifelong resident of Great Bend. He married Frances M. Sohm on June 11, 1960, at Great Bend. He received his GED while serving in the United States Air Force. He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Bisterfeldt was a maintenance supervisor for USD 428 for many years before his retirement.
RUSSELL - Herman J. Hammerschmidt, 98, of Russell, died Oct. 25 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. Herman was born on June 23, 1912, in Walker, the son of Jacob and Anna (Geist) Hammerschmidt. He grew up and attended public schools in Walker and lived all his life in the Walker, Victoria and Russell areas. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Raymond "Bud" Duane Wamsley passed away Oct. 24 in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 78. Raymond was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Wichita to the late Robert and Isadore Wamsley of Conway Springs. Upon graduation from Conway Springs High School he attended and received degrees from Friends University and Wichita State University, both in Wichita, and later the University of Kansas, where he received his doctorate in Education in 1968. Raymond was a lifetime educator and administrator. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Nadine Dreiling, 81, died Oct. 10, at Hays Medical Center. Born June 25, 1933, in Neck City, Mo., she was the daughter of George and Vera (Sargent) Moore. On Oct. 2, 1954, she married Donald A. Dreiling in Chase. He died on Nov. 11, 2010. A resident of Great Bend since 1954, coming from Chase, she and her husband owned and operated Don's Food Mart and she retired from Dillon's Pharmacy. She loved her grandchildren and watching sports, especially the University of Kansas Jayhawks and New York Yankees.
WINFIELD - Donald M. "Don" Kline, 87, of Winfield, passed away on Oct. 11, at Cumbernauld Village. Born Aug. 29, 1927, in Wichita, he was the son of Arthur C. and Martha H. (Harris) Kline. He was raised and educated in the Marion and Great Bend areas. Don left school prior to graduation to join the United States Navy. He proudly served his country on the USS Monrovia as a Medical Corpsman from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1949. HOISINGTON - George L. Carson, 71, died Aug. 30, at Clara Barton Hospital. Born July 18, 1943 in Great Bend, he was the son of Russell and Pearl (Smith) Carson. On March 3, 1967, he married Gloria Newell in Damar. He was a graduate of Fort Hays State University. A lifetime resident of rural Barton County, he was employed by the Kansas Fish and Game Commission as a biologist.

Paul E. Dyer, 84, died Oct. 8 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 20, 1930, in Great Bend, he was the son of Homer and Katherine (Jones) Dyer. On Jan. 4, 1954, he married Julitta M. Elsen, in Great Bend. She died on March 12, 1995. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
John D. Trimmer, 65, of Great Bend and formerly of Pawnee Rock and Dundee, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8, at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. He was born on Feb. 11, 1949, at Belleville, to George Franklin and Edna Alene (Larr) Trimmer. He graduated from Republic County Schools in 1965 and was united in marriage to Diana Levingston on June 10, 1976, at Pawnee Rock. She died on July 22, 2013. John worked as a chain hand in the oilfield prior to his retirement. He enjoyed rock collecting, watching wrestling and spending time with family.
