David F. Folkerts, CPA, 78, died Oct. 12, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 18, 1938, at Larned, he was the son of Harm Herman and Mabel Pearl (Simmons) Folkerts. He was a 1956 graduate of Great Bend High School and received a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Kansas. On Aug. 29, 1959, he married Cecile Krause Samson at Seward. Rita Jo (Link) Bownes, 57, died Oct. 12, 2016, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born April 13, 1959, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Kenneth J. and Shirley J. (Wallace) Link. On Aug. 11, 1978, she married Lynn Bownes, at Ellinwood. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she owned Beer 30 Drinking Hole. She enjoyed NASCAR, especially Carl Edwards, dachshunds, 4-H, her many friends and time with her grandchildren.
George Robert Kasselman, 84, arrived safely in the arms of Jesus on Oct. 10, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born on Feb. 20, 1932, in rural Ellinwood he was the son of John and Bertha (Churchhill) Kasselman. In 1950, he graduated from Ellinwood High School and later served 4 years in the US Navy where he was aboard the U.S.S Onslow during the Korean War. MCCRACKEN - Francis H. "Shorty" Wierman, 93, passed away Oct. 8, 2016, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Lacrosse. Born Nov. 8, 1922, in Ness County, he was the son of William J. and Margaret McGaughey Wierman.
ELDORADO - Dorala "Janie" DeVore passed away at her home on Sunday Oct. 9, 2016. Janie's life began on Oct. 28, 1940, in Waterville, the daughter of Ralph B. and Veda E. (Bonnett) Karst. She attended school in El Dorado and worked 22 years for Boeing in Wichita and eight years for Cessna prior to Boeing.
Ruth Tittel, 94, passed away peacefully at her home to meet her Lord and family on Aug. 6th, 2016. Ruth had battled dementia and Alzheimer's for the past several years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray; her son Ron; and her two sisters, Lucille and Bernice. She is survived by her daughter Rita Hutchinson; two nephews Larry Hendrickson and Michael Whelan; and niece Yvette Stark.
GRAINFIELD - Marianne Ladenburger was born Feb. 11, 1930, to E.A. Baalman and Leoba Robben Baalman on the family farm near Menlo. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Wichita, in 1948. She married Willus P. Ladenburger in Seguin, Dec. 28, 1949. She died Oct. 8, 2016, in her home.
ABILENE - June (Cary) Boxum, 94, died Oct. 9, 2016, at Village Manor in Abilene. Born June 19, 1922, in Downs she was the daughter of Warren and Celeste Cary. She attended school in Downs, graduating in 1940. Later, she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business. On June 17, 1945, she married Lloyd Boxum. He died on Oct. 22, 2009. After retiring as a secretary from Great Bend School District #428, she was employed at the Hatchet Motel in Moran, Wyo. She also spent many years making and teaching ceramics in her ceramic shop.
ENID, Okla. - Brian Keith Brueggemann, 53, died at his home at Enid, Okla. Born in Ellinwood, he was the son of Carlon McMullen and Karen ( Mullenix) Sunderland. He grew up in Great Bend and lived in various locations through the years. Brian was a highly skilled private aircraft painter for 30 years, and has painted aircraft for famous people, i.e. John Travolta, Hank Williams Jr., the Miami Dolphins team plane, and many others.
SCOTT CITY - Norman G. Medina, 58, passed away on Oct. 2, 2016, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City. Born Jan. 26, 1958, in Scott City, he was the son of Jess and Dolores Torrez Medina. A resident of Scott City since 2013, moving from Garden City, he was the owner and operator of his trucking company, Pure Country, and then worked for CHS for the past six years. On May 16, 2010, he married Cynthia Bitner in Reno, Nev. She survives.
ELLINWOOD - Vada Lucille Yarmer, 89, passed away Oct. 4, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Oct. 19, 1926, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of John and Gertrude Mae (Huffman) Yarmer. She was a lifetime resident of Ellinwood.
B. Marie Marcum, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 5, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living. She was born April 23, 1923, at Lucas, the daughter of Orville and Martha (Hendrick) Parks. When she was three, her family moved to a farm near Sylvan Grove. She graduated from Sylvan Grove High School in 1941.
