Thelia Belle Moore Brack, 91, died Aug. 11 at Sterling House of Great Bend. Born Dec. 13, 1921, on a farm southeast of Dundee, she was the daughter of Robert Warren and Hellena Unruh Moore. She attended Barton County rural school, graduated from Pawnee Rock High School. She attended Fort Hays Teachers College, and taught in rural schools in Barton County for five years. On July 25, 1945, she was united in marriage to Vernell F. (Shorty) Brack of Otis at the Pawnee Rock New Jerusalem Church. He passed away on Nov. 12, 1996. To this union three children were ...
RAYTOWN, Mo. - Marcia C. McIntyre, 71, passed away Aug. 3rd. After years of moving around with the Air Force, she and her husband settled in Raytown, Mo., where she eventually retired from DST Systems. She moved to Dayton in January of 2012. She was a 1959 graduate of Great Bend High School.
ELLINWOOD- Loretha Mae (Short) Brown, 90, died Aug. 9 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Oct. 18, 1922 at Finley, Okla., she was the daughter of Ottis Denford Byrum and Clara Pauline Sipes. On Oct. 3, she was married to Thomas T.J. Brown at Antlers, Okla. He died on March 16, 1999. Formerly of Hobbs, N.M., she was an Ellinwood resident since 1958. She was a housewife and flower gardener. She belonged to the Calvary Baptist Church in Ellinwood.
Virgil Gene Maser, 80, died July 28 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born May 1, 1933 in Bazine, he was the son of Fred and Hannah (Apple) Maser. On May 16, 1952 he married Linda Croft in New Mexico. She survives. A resident of Great Bend since 1958, coming from Hutchinson, he was a farmer and previously managed the Senate Hotel. He had also owned and operated Virgos Café, Granny's Kitchen, Star Lite Supper Club and Jayhawk Cafe.
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Daniel W. Cates, 47, of Blue Springs, Mo., and a native of Great Bend, passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 5, 2013, at Indian Meadows Healthcare Center in Overland Park after a lengthy illness.

HAYS - Linus H. Schmeidler, 87, died Aug. 4, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1926 on the family farm at Severin, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. In 1944 he graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy. On Sept. 14, 1957, he married LuVerna K. Stroemel at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Walker. He worked at Travenol in Hays and was also a floor covering installer for Vitzum's Incorporated for many years.
