ELLINWOOD - Viola Ann Komarek died March 8 in Topeka. Born on Jan. 6, 1920, in Kansas City, she was the daughter of Homer F. McCready and Minta M. (Pierce) McCready. In 1926, she moved with her parents to Florence. She graduated from Florence High School in 1941 (National Honor Society) and moved to Kansas City where she worked in the office at Folgers Coffee Co. ROZEL - Jerome (Joe) A. Sauer, 85, died March 10 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Sept. 8, 1928, in Antonino, he was the son of Anton and Pauline Rupp Sauer. On Nov. 24, 1949, he married Martha L. Arnold at Rozel. She passed away on Sept. 10, 2012. A resident of Rozel, he was a retired farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Thomas James Vaughn, 71, died March 5 at Leisure Home, St. John. He was born on July 28, 1942, at Wellington, the son of Thomas and Leola (Bell) Vaughn. A resident of Great Bend since 1964, he was a retired truck driver for UPS.
GREAT BEND - Alice Mary Nobles, 94, died March 6, 2014 at her home in Great Bend. Born July 18, 1919 in Logan County, she was the daughter of Samuel and Josie (Baugh) Cushinberry. On Dec. 18, 1947 she married Daniel Nobles in Kansas City, Mo. A longtime resident of Great Bend, growing up in Hoisington, she was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Industries in Kansas City, Mo. during World War II and later was a private home care provider.
CONCORDIA - Phyllis A. Winter, 74, died March 5 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. Born on Nov. 20, 1939, in Concordia, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Cote) Breen. She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School. On Feb. 24, 1958, she married Willis "Willie" D. Winter. She was a secretary/bookkeeper for Palmquist Drug Store, Associate Financial and various other businesses.
PAWNEE ROCK - Norma Pauline Kasselman, 96, passed away March 5 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born July 17, 1917, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Emma (LeCleff) and James Argyle. She was a lifetime resident of Pawnee Rock. On June 5, 1937, she married Emmett "Johnny" Kasselman in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2001.
ELLINWOOD - Bernice Ida Koch, 99, died March 6 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. She was born March 16, 1914, at Alden, the daughter of Claud E. and Emma Louise (Reiser) Parker. She graduated from Alden High School in 1932. On March 10, 1935, she married Harry Koch at Alden, he preceded her in death. A life-long resident of Barton and Rice counties, she was a retired secretary and agent with Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. as well as a homemaker.
