HOISINGTON - Clara R. Steiner, 95, died Oct. 26 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
Juanita I. Rose, 76, died Oct. 26 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born Jan. 27, 1935 in Stonington, Colo., she was the daughter of Louie and Goldie (Sloan) Burhenn. On Aug. 14, 1954 she married William Robert Rose in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1954, coming from Radium, she was a pre-school teacher for Berean Pre-school at the First Assembly of God. She loved taking care of children.
Paul M. Maier, 68, died Oct. 26, at Pinnacle Park in Salina. Born Feb. 13, 1943 at Hays, he was the son of Henry and Tabea (Dietz) Maier. A lifelong resident of Barton County, he graduated from Otis High School. On Sept. 3, 1963, he married Nadine Nolte in Ellinwood. They later divorced but remained friends. He worked at Thies Packing Plant in Great Bend for many years and later worked various oilfield jobs retiring from Magellan. He enjoyed fishing, nature, bird watching and loved animals.

SCOTT CITY - William L. "Bill" Dryer, 74, passed away as the result of a heart attack at Cedar Bluff Reservoir in Trego County Monday, Oct. 24, 2011.
GREAT BEND -- Sister Markita Haefling, 79, died Oct. 24, in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Dec. 16, 1931, in Strong City, as Kathryn Haefling, Sister Markita was the daughter of the late Marion and Mary Anne Beumer Haefling. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community in Great Bend on Sept. 18, 1949, and pronounced her first vows on June 7, 1952. She celebrated fifty years of religious profession in 2002. Sister Markita was a teacher in elementary and secondary schools of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado from 1952 – 1993. In 1995 she began ministry in Mercy Housing in ...
LARNED – Carl Dean Immenschuh, 70, died Oct. 22, 2011 at Promise Regional Hospital, in Hutchinson, of asbestos related lung cancer. Born April 18, 1941, at the family home in Fellsburg, he was the son of Edward and Bernice Ingraham Immenschuh. He attended the University of California-Riverside. On June 3, 1961, he married Vallene Oetken at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. She survives. Carl and Vallene started Pelican Photographics, The Pelican Press and the Kinsley Graphic.

Robert J. "Bob" Tittel, 56, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 5, at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born on Jan. 23, 1958 in Ness City, he was the son of Benhardt and Hildegard Frieda Emma (Schettler) Tittel. In 1976, he graduated from Ness City High School, and that same year he moved to Great Bend. A longtime Great Bend resident, he worked for many years as a cable technician for CableVision in Great Bend until health issues prevented him from working. Bob was a bit of a Jack-of-all-trades, and enjoyed many activities, including auto body restoration.
James W. Herren, 92, died Oct. 6, at Sumner County Care Center in Wellington. Born June 24, 1922, in Great Bend, he was the son of George L. and Minda (Knighton) Herren. On July 10, 1978, he married Beverly A. Barnes in Wichita. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a supervisor for Kansas Foundation for the Blind.
