Christopher Wayne Gross, 34, of Great Bend, died Sept. 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1975, at Garden City, the son of Steven F. and Sharon Newton Gross. He was a general laborer and a former Pratt resident, moving to Great Bend in 2008.
HOISINGTON - Junior Lee Patterson, 84, died Sept. 9 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, at Collinville, Okla., the son of Pet and Alma (Johnson) Innman. He married Betty J. Phillips on Sept. 24, 1948, at Beaver. He worked for NCRA as a production foreman for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime Hoisington resident and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
MANHATTAN - Dr. Kenneth M. Boese, 84, Manhattan, passed away Sept. 8 at the Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville. He was born Sept. 30, 1925, at Hoisington, the son of Jacob Boese and Mabel Whipple Boese. He grew up in Hoisington, where he attended the local schools. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and the Kansas University School of Medicine.
SALINA - Cynthia Sue Killen, 59, died Sept. 5. Born July 20, 1951, in Holdrege, Neb., she was the daughter of Allen and Nadine Braun. She graduated from Norton High School and attended Brown-Mackie College in Salina. She married Ron Ladish. They divorced. She then married Jay Killen. She was employed at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, as a secretary in the laboratory department and at CPI, and later at Cox Communications in Salina.
OSAGE CITY - Edward Kooi passed away Sept. 7 in Osage City. Ed was born Nov. 19, 1930. at New York City, N.Y., to Dirk and Mary (Bierman) Kooi. He made the Air Force his career. While stationed in Topeka he met and married Milda Dietz on Aug. 13, 1967. She preceded in death Aug. 10, 1996. They moved with his career and eventually settled in Arvada, Colo. Later Ed and Milda moved to Lyndon and Ed worked for the Air National Guard in Topeka until his second retirement.
Edna Weiss Klusener, of Great Bend, was born May 16, 1929, to Frank and Marie (Weiser) Weiss in Great Bend and returned home to heaven Aug. 16 at the age of 81. Edna played many parts on the stage of life; she was the obedient daughter of Frank and Marie Weiss, and she became the faithful wife of Richard D. Klusener on Sept. 15, 1948. Richard and Edna shared 49 beautiful years of marriage until her beloved husband passed away Sept. 3, 1997. Marjorie Marie Pizel, 88, died Sept. 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend. She was born Nov. 25, 1921, at Kanorado, the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Stalgren) Wright. She married Herbert L. Pizel June 20, 1942, at Goodland.
Eugene P. "Gene" Weber, 53, died Sept. 2 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born June 1, 1957 at Great Bend, the son of George and Lydia (Schwartz) Weber.
Donald Gene "Fergy" Ferguson, 74, died Sept. 3 at his Great Bend home. He was born June 21, 1936 at Hardy, Arkansas, the son of Forest and Doris (Richardson) Ferguson. He married Opal McKnight May 19, 1955 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident for sixty years, coming from Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Ferguson was owner and operator of Fergy's Enterprises, which he started June 21, 1978. He retired from his love of driving his loader in 2009.
HOISINGTON - Dennis Thummel, 65, died Sept. 1 at Country Place Assisted Living, Hoisington. He was born Sept. 2, 1944, at Englewood, Colo., the son of Walter and Eleanor Korte Thummel. He married Shirley Packard on July 20, 1965. He was formerly of Brighton, Colo. He was educated at Selden and served in the U.S. Navy. He managed cooperatives at several locations in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado. He was retired.
LARNED - Jerald L. Jinks, 75, died Sept. 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center St. Rose Campus, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Big Bow, the son of Charles Lewis and Delores Pudge Jinks. An area resident for the past 63 years, he was a heating and air conditioning specialist.
Margaret G. Damon, 96, of Great Bend, died Sept. 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born March 29, 1914, at Ponca City, Okla., the daughter Charles and Fern (Schultz) Hess. She married Ansel Martin "Bud" Damon on April 17, 1935, at Lyons. He died Dec. 26, 1993. She was a homemaker. She was a Great Bend resident since 1935, coming from Chase.
Robert R. Turner, 81, of Great Bend, died Sept. 1 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. He was born March 30, 1929, at Oskaloosa, Mo., the son of Virgil E. and Annabell (Page) Turner. He married Jolene Bortz on June 21, 1957, at Kinsley. He worked for Kansas Brick and Tile, Hoisington. He was a Great Bend resident for 53 years, coming from Oskaloosa, Mo.
Julius G. Gerstenkorn, 93, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 at Midland Hospice House. He was born Jan. 22, 1917 in Odin, the son of Andrew and Anna (Herman) Gerstenkorn. Julius married Cecilia A. Boor in Odin on Jan. 19, 1943. She survives. Julius worked 22 years for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., retiring in 1980.

Evelyn Anna Hochstatter, 96, died Feb. 22 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. Born Feb. 25, 1917 at Holyrood, she was the daughter of John and Katie A. (Schmitt) Ehler.
Doris J. Nitzel, 86 years, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away on Thursday evening, Feb. 20, 2014 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend after a brief illness. Doris was born on Oct. 21, 1927 at Fairbury, Neb. to Moses G. and Grace (Eilts) Williams. She graduated from Endicott High School at Endicott, Neb. in 1946, and was united in marriage to Robert Dale Nitzel on Feb. 9, 1947 at Endicott. Doris was an Accounting Clerk for various businesses for many years prior to her retirement. She was an active volunteer for RSVP, and delivered Meals On Wheels ...
