Lester W. Miller, 87, died Aug. 8, at Fairbury, Neb. Born on Jan. 6, 1924 in Fairbury, Neb., he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Koch) Miller. He attended school at Morrowville and graduated in 1941. After high school, he farmed with his father north of Morrowville. Lester was also part owner in the Corner Café for several years. On Dec. 29, 1945, he was united in marriage to Agnes L'Ecuyer. MERRIAM - Joan C. Hicks, 81, of Merriam passed away July 28, at Trinity Nursing Home in Merriam. She was born Dec. 2, 1929 in St. John. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she taught at the Academy of Beauty for several years. She was loved by all who knew her. Joan loved reading, doing puzzles and playing cards and enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports.
Thelma Elaine Hannaford, 75, died Aug. 6 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Agra, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Lois May Mona (Smith) Stockham. On April 1, 1958, she married Calvin Ellwood Hannaford in Oakley. He died on Oct. 20, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1966, coming from Colby, she was a homemaker.
LITTLETON, Colo. - Willie Edwin Schultz, 79, died July 7 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., surrounded by his wife, children and grandson. Born July 26, 1932, in Russell, he was the son of Alexander David Schultz and Mollie Weimaster Schultz.
Ryan L. Byers, 21, of Great Bend, died Aug. 6, 2011, in Rice County. He was born Jan. 27, 1990, at Great Bend, the son of Steven and Karma (Miller) Byers. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he worked in the mail room at the Great Bend Tribune.
LARNED - Millard K. Barrett, 78, died Aug. 4, 2011, at his home in Larned. Born Feb. 15, 1933, in Larned, he was the son of Hugh M. and Elizabeth Boyer Barrett. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer. On Dec. 30, 1959, he married Patricia Schinstock in Kinsley. She survives.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.
WINFIELD - Susan Marie (Feldman) Quint, 46, of Winfield, went to her Heavenly home on May 15, after a valiant fight with Brain Cancer. She was born March 19, 1969, in Great Bend to Richard and Jackye (Strother) Feldman. Susan graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. She obtained an Office Manager degree from Wichita Area Vocational Technical College and an Associate Degree from Cowley County Community College in Early Childhood Education. Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.
