Donald A. Dreiling, 83, of Great Bend, died Nov. 11 at his home. He was born April 11, 1927, at Victoria, the son of Alexander John and Catherine (Brungardt) Dreiling. He married Nadine Moore on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chase. He owned and operated Don's Food Mart. He was a lifelong Great Bend resident, coming from Victoria.

VALLEY CENTER - Lucille P. Hester, 84, died Nov. 9 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of William Glenn and Nellie B. (Westover) Gruber. On April 18, 1946, she married Raymond J. Hester in Hoisington. He died Dec. 20, 1985. A resident of Valley Center since 1958, moving from Hoisington, she was a retired cook for USD #262 in Valley Center.
ELLINWOOD - Mary Eileen McQuade, 87, died Nov. 9 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. She was born July 10, 1923, at Frontenac, the daughter of Joseph Charles and Anne Virginia Kelly Lavery. She had been an Ellinwood resident since 1958. She married Peter John McQuade on Feb. 19, 1945, at Frontenac. He died Oct. 31, 2003. She was a homemaker and worked at a munitions plant in southeast Kansas during World War II. She was a secretary for Mount Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg and for Kan/Colo Credit Union in Ellinwood.

LARNED - June Alene Berglund, 87, died Nov. 9 at Larned Healthcare Center, Larned. She was born June 29, 1923, in Sanford, the daughter of Harry L.S. and Marie Henrietta Detzen Meckfessel. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, she was a homemaker and worked as an office clerk for the Pawnee County Treasurer's Office for 17 years.

NEWTON - William "Bill" Alexander, 59, died Nov. 7 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. He was born May 24, 1951, in Denver, Colo. He graduated from Mound City High School and went on to complete two years at Fort Scott Junior college. He served three years with the United States Navy. Following that, he wisely used the G.I. Bill to further his education and attended Wichita State University and achieved his bachelor's degree, followed by his Physician's Assistant Degree. On Aug. 14, 2006, he married Tamera J. Willa Mae Springfeldt, 93, died July 10, at Almost Home in Great Bend. Born July 11, 1920, in Springfield, Mo., she was the daughter of William and Ethel Mae (Renfro) Teem. On Nov. 23, 1940, she married Virgil L. Springfeldt in Cottonwood Falls. He died on June 7, 1992. A resident of Great Bend since 1972, coming from Bushton, she and her husband were owner and operator of IGA of Bushton and Kwik Shop in Great Bend. She enjoyed playing the piano and cello.
Dennis A. Munoz, 66, longtime resident of Great Bend, passed away at his Great Bend home on Wednesday afternoon, July 9. Born Dec. 10, 1947, in Great Bend, he was the son of Frank and Katherine (Pyles) Munoz. In 1965, he graduated from Great Bend High School.
HOLLYWOOD, FLA.- Esther Dunham, 89, died Dec. 2, 2013 at Golfcrest Health Care Center, Hollywood, Fla. Born July 16, 1924 at Scottsbluff, Neb., she was the daughter of Lee Selby and Alice Butler. She married Jack Dunham June 9, 1945 at Hays, Kan. A former resident of Great Bend before moving to Florida, she was employed at J. C. Penney and the Barton County Health Department until her retirement.

Larry Randall Miller, 55, died May 31, in San Diego, Calif. Born March 10, 1959 at Great Bend, he was the son of Harold S. and Dorothy J. Miller. He joined the Coast Guard in 1978, working as a corpsman and was awarded a letter from President Ronald Reagan for saving a life. He attended Wichita State University on the GI Bill and later worked as a respiratory therapist and cardiology technician. He married Bernadette Alison December 31, 1990 at San Diego.

WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Theresa A. Wornkey, 81, died July 6, at Memorial Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Born Jan. 12, 1933, in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Matt and Barbara (Hiney) Apel. On April 9, 1953, she married Jim Wornkey in Ellinwood. She was a 15 year resident of Wyandotte, Okla. where she enjoyed her retired years with her husband of over 60 years. Theresa was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her life.
LARNED -Herman J. Mausolf, 85, passed away July 7 at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1929 in Albert; the son of Herman E. and Anna D. Jurgensen Mausolf. A longtime area resident he was a Chief Security Officer at the Larned State Hospital, retiring in 1991.
LARNED -Robert C. Sharp Sr., 80, passed away July 6 in Vassar. He was born Oct. 28, 1933, in Pratt, the son of Carl and Dorothy Cole Sharp. He was the owner of Sharp Sanitation in Larned.
