Alyce M. Draney, 80, died June 8, 2015, at her home in Great Bend. She was born April 9, 1935, at Bertrand, Nebraska, the daughter of Jesse and Madge (Stevens) Dyer. She married Ralph E. Draney Oct. 30, 1950. A Great Bend resident since 1958, she was a homemaker and an avid flower and vegetable gardener.
SCOTSDALE, Ariz. - Janlyn Miner Morrison died May 13, 2015. Born Dec. 18, 1939, in Dodge City, to Arline (Collins) and Robert Dudley Miner, "Jan" was the great-granddaughter of two pioneering western Kansas farm families. The family moved to Great Bend in 1946, where Jan attended public schools and then Kansas University her freshman year.
HAYS - Matthew Harlan "Matt" Stricker, 41, passed away June 7, 2015, at his home in Hays. Born Feb. 9, 1974, in Russell, he was the son of Gottfried Jr. and Marsha (Boxberger) Stricker. He grew up in Russell until the fourth grade when Matt and his family moved to Hays. In 1992 he graduated from Hays High School. He was a co-owner of Back To Nature Inc. of Hays.
LARNED - Carolyn S. Rein, 53, passed away June 4, at her home in Larned. Born May 31, 1962, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Robert H. and Rosemarie H. Henrici Rein. She was an Insurance Medical Clerk.
JUNCTION CITY - Heather Dawn Allen, 41, died June 7, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Born Oct. 14, 1973, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Michael Dale and Sharon (Bruno) Vanaman. On Oct. 10, 1999, she married Shawn Allen in Great Bend. A resident of Junction City since 2006, coming from Great Bend, she was a LPN.
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gladys Erma (Schultz) Williamson, 94, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on June 2, in Bismarck, N.D. Gladys was born to Edward and Maggie (Miller) Schultz on Feb. 1, 1921, near Larned. Her early years were spent on the farm near Larned. After the family moved into Larned, she graduated from high school there in 1939. It was there that she met Delmar Williamson. LIBERTY, Mo. - Maryanne Shutler, 81, passed on in peace on May 26, 2015, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. She was a dedicated mother to her children and a very proud grandmother. Maryanne spent five years as a house mother at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and two years as a house mother at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, in Manhattan.
HOISINGTON - Carol S. Warrick, 100, died May 30, 2015, at Pawnee County Community Hospital in Larned. Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Blair, Neb., he was the son of Neum and Blanche D. (Peck) Warrick. On April 21, 1946, he married Lois Stoskopf in Hoisington. She died on May 11, 1998. A longtime resident of Hoisington, he was a farmer.
WICHITA - Lavern Eugene Elsasser, 83, died May 31, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Milberger, he was the son of Leo and Esther (Ochs) Elsasser. On April 18, 1954, he married Nila Jean Diel in Otis. He was senior application engineer for Diesel Equipment Company in Great Bend beginning in 1955, and transferred with the company in 1966, to Wichita, which later became Central Power Systems. HAYS - Michael Dean Graf, 59, died May 28, 2015, at his home in Hays. He was born June 13, 1955, in Great Bend, to Edwin and Armella "Millie" (Stegman) Graf. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1973 and attended Fort Hays State University. He married Robbie (Weatherbee) Dreiling on Aug. 31, 1991.
OTIS - Connie Lynne (Hoch) Hoopingarner, 72, passed away on June 22, 2015, at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. Born on Aug. 24, 1942, she was the daughter of O.C. ('Poss') and Esther (Keenan) Hoch. In 1960, she graduated from Hoisington High School and went on to earn her Dental Hygiene Degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City. She worked as a Dental Hygienist until her retirement in 2002. On Feb. 29, 1964, she married Larry Dwight Hoopingarner in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Manter.
Hugh Robert "Bud" Steadman, 90, died June 21, 2015, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born May 23, 1925, in Great Bend, he was the son of Frank M. and Blanche Marie (Sterling) Steadman. On July 14, 1946, he married Delores June Schenkel in Bazine. She died on April 28, 2015. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was an engineering technician for Evans, Bierly and Hutchison.
