SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Raymond "Bud" Duane Wamsley passed away Oct. 24 in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 78. Raymond was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Wichita to the late Robert and Isadore Wamsley of Conway Springs. Upon graduation from Conway Springs High School he attended and received degrees from Friends University and Wichita State University, both in Wichita, and later the University of Kansas, where he received his doctorate in Education in 1968. Raymond was a lifetime educator and administrator. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Edward L. Koopman, 83, of Great Bend, died Oct. 22, He was born in Great Bend on Dec. 30, 1926, to Edward C. and Myrtle Pettit Koopman. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1944 and attended Kansas State University, where he played basketball. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, receiving a medical discharge in 1945.
EDMOND, Okla. - Kevin L. Cook, 36, of Edmond, Okla., died Oct. 22 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond. Kevin was born March 27, 1974, in Great Bend, to Gary and Lorene Cook. He resided in Perryton, Texas, from 1974-1985, when the family moved to Cushing, Okla. WICHITA/LARNED - Darrell Dee (Sonny) Knight, 85, passed away Oct. 22 at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Wichita. Born in Garden City, Aug. 21, 1925, to Harold H. Knight, Sr. and Wanda (Holmes) Knight, He graduated from Pawnee Rock High School where he grew up spending considerable time with his special grandmother Maude Holmes.
HOISINGTON - Martha Ann Redetzke, 77, died Oct. 22 at Hospice of Reno County. She was born Oct. 29, 1932, at Altadena, Calif., the daughter of Harry and Nora (Auten) Hawes. She married Clarence Redetzke on Nov. 3, 1951, at Fort Smith, Ark. She worked as an accounting clerk for Essex for 23 years. She was a Hoisington resident.
AMARILLO, Texas - Odessa Mills, 93, died Oct. 20 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, at Lockney, Texas, the daughter of Richard Warren and Girlie Hewett Thomas. She married Vernon Mills on Dec. 23, 1951, at Boise City, Okla. He died Aug. 15, 1988. She was an Ellinwood resident since 2006, formerly of Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas, and Pueblo and Denver, Colo. She managed the camera department at Skaggs Drug in Pueblo and in Amarillo, from 1959 to 1981. She was in sales for more than 20 years.

STAFFORD - Rena Lynn (Staley) Dolezal, 50, died Oct. 19 in Wichita. She was born May 28, 1960, in Russell. She was a grocery store manager. Survivors include her father, Donald Staley, of Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Nathan Staley of Wichita and Keith Staley of Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Lillian Parks and Holly Harrison, both of Woodward, Okla.; five nieces, two nephews and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette Keener Staley, and a nephew, Travis Parks.

He graduated from Fort Hays State University, where he received a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Administration and Mathematics. Janet S. Brack, 59, of Great Bend, died Oct. 20 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 15, 1951, at Maryville, Mo., the daughter of Rolla and Helen (Blacketer) Rankin. She married Greg Brack on July 29, 1992, at Great Bend, after sharing their lives since 1984. She worked for BMI as a claim processor and was a social worker and elementary schoolteacher for many years. Mrs. Brack was a longtime Barton County resident, coming from Norton. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, gardening and her family and friends.

Carolyn A. Sheets, 79, died Sept. 15 at her home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 3, 1934, in rural Rose Hill, she was the daughter of Earl and Esther (Hall) Showalter. She married Gerald Skeels. On Nov. 9, 1979, she married Donald Eugene "Gene" Sheets in Dighton. He died July 25, 2012. A Great Bend resident since 1963, she was an office manager for Great Bend Appliance for 13 years and was a former secretary at Security State Bank and First National Bank. She enjoyed her family and friends and playing golf.
Peggy Lynn Crowe, 58, died Sept. 16 at her home in Great Bend. Born May 4, 1956, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Johnnie Douglas and Marie (Griffith) Crowe. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was an occupational therapist at Clara Barton Hospital.
Lester Leo Achatz, 65, died Sept. 14 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 21, 1948, in Great Bend, he was the son of Milton and Bertha (Birzer) Achatz. On Dec. 27, 2011, he married Kimm M. Lewis in Great Bend. He grew up in Great Bend and lived in Virginia before moving back to Great Bend. He was employed by H-2 Trucking.
