K. "Suzie" Renfro, 71, of Great Bend, died Aug. 24 at HOspice House, Hutchinson. She was born Sept. 7, 1938, at Great Bend, the daughter of Luther and Clara (Ehnstedt) Miller. She married Danny F. Renfro on July 22, 1992, at Great Bend. She was a truck driver for Brown and Brown Trucking, Guthrie Steaming and Tank Service and Venture Corporation. She was also a hairdresser.
SALINA - Robert Fredrick Ahlvers, 69, of Salina, died Aug. 21. Robert was born July 22, 1941, in Beloit, the second son of Leo and Eunice (Smith) Ahlvers. He grew up on the family farm near Glen Elder and graduated from Glen Elder High School. He attended Fort Hays State University. Robert (Bob) worked for Tractor Supply Company for more than 30 years in its different stores at Salina and St. Joseph, Mo. HOISINGTON - Marjorie L. Lang, 81, died Aug. 24 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita. She was born Aug. 8, 1929, at Hoisington, the daughter of Leo H. and Lucille (Hermreck) Pickert. She married Ernest V. Lang on April 22, 1952, at Hoisington. He died Nov. 10, 1983. She was a homemaker, worked at the Hoisington Phone Co. and was a retired secretary for Stueder Contractors in Great Bend.
HARPER - Chris Shull, 58, died Aug. 23 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born Feb. 17, 1952, at Scott City, the son of William Horton Shull Jr. and Beverly Raye (Burghart) Shull. A machinist, he was a Harper resident for eight years, coming from Great Bend.
Maurice "Dutch" Esfeld, 81, of Great Bend, died Aug. 22 at the Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge. He was born Sept. 7, 1928, at Great Bend, the son of Fred and Frances (Monger) Esfeld. He married Joan L. Murry on July 6, 1949, at Great Bend. She died Feb. 14, 1998. He was owner and operator of Esfeld Trucking.
OTIS - David Alan Galusha, 31, died Aug. 21 at his home in Otis. He was born May 28, 1979, at Great Bend, the son of Timothy and Connie (Schlegel) Galusha. He worked as a guard for the Larned Correctional Facility.
ALBERT - Barbara J. Boggs, 80, died Aug. 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born Oct. 25, 1929, at Sutherland, Iowa, the daughter of Columbus and Carrie (Archer) Brown. She married Thomas W. Boggs on July 14, 1951, at Mason City, Iowa. He died Dec. 31, 2005. Mrs. Boggs was a homemaker and a resident of Albert since May 2009, moving from Apache Junction, Ariz., and formerly of Hesston.

HOUSTON, Texas - Denice Watson of Houston, Texas, formerly of Russell, was born July 21, 1960, in Great Bend, the daughter of Alex and Minnie Watson. She died on the morning of Aug. 18. She is survived by her husband, Booker T. Cartwright of Russell, and daughters Shalonda Watson of Houston, Salima Watson of Sterling, Shalaya Watson-Cartwright and Vicky Hokanson, both of Houston, Deana Cartwright of Great Bend and Rashaonda Row of Texas; her sons Brandon Cartwright of Sterling, Colo., Braylan Cartwright of Russell and Barrian Cartwright of Great Bend, and lastly she leaves behind 11 grandchildren. Edwin "Eddie" Graf, 86, of Great Bend, died Aug. 19 at St. John's of Victoria, in Victoria. He was born Jan. 16, 1924, at Ness City, the 11th of 12 children of Joseph and Rosa (Pfannenstiel) Graf. He wasa lifelong resident of central and western Kansas. Eddie, as he was known, had eight brothers and three sisters and was the last surviving sibling. FORT MORGAN, Colo. - Dustin Michael Smith, 26, of Fort Morgan, died Aug. 19 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colo. He was born June 5, 1984, in Hoisington, to Richard and Angela (Funk) Smith. Dustin moved with his family to Fort Morgan in 1987. Dustin loved his family and friends and they were very important to him. In his spare time he raced at the I-76 Speedway and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He really enjoyed his job and took great pride in it.

OTIS - George A. Freidenberger, 81, died Aug. 2 at his home in Otis. He was born June 25, 1929, in Rush County, the son of George and Sophie (Kindsfater) Freidenberger. He was a 1947 graduate of Bison High School. He married Velma M. Kanaga on Oct. 17, 1954, at Otis. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was plant operator and office manager for Kansas Refined Helium (Linde) at Otis before his retirement.

James A. Norvell, 91, of Great Bend, died Sunday morning in Bartlesville, Okla. James spent his last few months at his son Brian's Bartlesville home. James Alfred Norvell was born the son of Ross and Georgie Fry Norvell on Sept. 14, 1922, in Piney, Ark. He grew up in various places until entering the United States Navy during World War II. PRATT - Laura Viola "Vi" Wagner, 79, died July 6, at South Wind Hospice in Pratt. Born Sept. 1, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Cash and Nellie Doty. On Jan. 30, 1959, she married Theodore (Nubbin) Heiter at Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death. She later married Bruce Wagner on May 23, 1986. He survives. She worked as a clerk at Crick's and also cooked for USD 382 and Pratt Regional Medical Center for a number of years. Her family was her passion.
FREDONIA - Tom Stephen Welton, 67, a resident of Fredonia, formerly of Hoisington, and El Dorado, died July 5, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 7, 1946, in Great Bend, he was the son of Donald E. and Mable (Roche) Welton. Tom was a graduate of Hoisington High School and received a bachelor's degree from Emporia State University. He was a retired office manager for Automotive Specialists in El Dorado.
