LAWRENCE - Ervin Francis Huslig, 67, and Mary Ann Huslig, 62, died April 20, 2015. Ervin was born August 17, 1947, in Kingman, the son of Anton Frank and Louise (Maneth) Huslig. Mary Ann Huslig was born Sept. 9, 1952, in Hays, the daughter of James M. Hart Sr. and Cecilia (Sack) Hart.
RUSSELL - Paul George Dietz, 96, passed away April 21, 2015 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 3, 1918, on the family farm in Russell County just north of Bender Hill, he was the son of Ferdinand and Pauline (Karst) Dietz. He grew up in the Bender Hill area and graduated in the Class of 1938 from Russell High School. On June 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Hilda Bender at the Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 27, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. HOISINGTON - Ethel Jonas, 91, died April 20, 2015, at Hays Medical Center in Hay. Born on June 1, 1923, in Barton County near Susank, she was the second child of Lora Retta (Gardner) Jonas and Edmund "Edd" G. Jonas. Her brother, Walter was born in 1920. He passed away in 2005.
Theresa Stanley, 73, of Great Bend, died April 19, 2015, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was born Oct 3, 1941, at La Crosse, to Henry and Mathilda (Heronema) Basgall. She graduated from La Crosse High School and was united in marriage to William Stanley in 1961 at La Crosse. She worked as a cook for many Great Bend area eating establishments, including JC Penney, A & W, Central Kansas Medical Center, the Petroleum Club, Barton Community College, Black Angus and the Great Bend Senior Center prior to her retirement in 2000.
SEWARD - Ronald Lee Reneau, 57, passed away April 13, 2015 at the University of Colorado Hospital. He was born on Dec. 13, 1957, in Kiowa. He lived most of his life in the Hudson, St John and Seward area. He joined US Navy right after high school graduation and spent time in the Philippines, Japan and Hawaiian Islands. He trained with the United States Navy Seals as their Assault Coxman.
RADIUM - Marvin Leroy Brown, 75, passed away April 19, at his home in Radium. Born July 8, 1939, in Great Bend, he was the son of J.P. and Frances (Ward) Brown. A resident of Radium since 1985, he was a welder. On Feb. 14, 1985, he married Lana C. (Mettscher) in Kansas City, MO. She survives of the home.
OSBORNE - Kenneth G. "Shorty" Hackerott, formally of Pawnee Rock, died on Feb. 28, 2015, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne. Born on July 17, 1936, in Rooks County, he was the son of Otto R. Hackerott and Belle (Mitchell) Hackerott. He loved books, old cars, trucks and tractors and enjoyed the 3-I shows.
HOISINGTON - Luella "Lu" Fercking, 78, went to be with her Lord on May 10, 2015, at Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 3, 1937, in Comanche County, at her Aunt Faye's farm house, she was the daughter of John and Lillie Cline. In 1954, she graduated from Ness City High School. On June 3, 1954, she married Robert "Ray" Fercking. He went to be with his Lord on Oct. 3, 2001. They moved to Great Bend in 1968. GARFIELD - Naomi L. Converse, 76, went to Heaven on May 10, at Via Christi Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Born Dec. 11, 1938, in Larned, she was the daughter of Vernon Henry and Ella Angela Wilson Meckfessel. A lifetime area resident, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, nana and aunt. She farmed alongside her husband, Alan, for 58 years. She loved harvesting crops especially wheat. No one touched her combine! Most of all, she loved her husband and family. CHASE - Katharine Kay Brady, 70, died May 9, 2015, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born Dec. 27, 1944, at Lyons, the daughter of Willis and Frances Haas White. She graduated from Chase High School in 1962. She was married to Melvin Brady. He preceded her in death. A longtime Chase resident, she was a homemaker and CNA at the Ellinwood Hospital.
