MERRIAM - Joan C. Hicks, 81, of Merriam passed away July 28, at Trinity Nursing Home in Merriam. She was born Dec. 2, 1929 in St. John. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she taught at the Academy of Beauty for several years. She was loved by all who knew her. Joan loved reading, doing puzzles and playing cards and enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports.
Thelma Elaine Hannaford, 75, died Aug. 6 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Agra, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Lois May Mona (Smith) Stockham. On April 1, 1958, she married Calvin Ellwood Hannaford in Oakley. He died on Oct. 20, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1966, coming from Colby, she was a homemaker.

BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.
