Marion W. Sunley, 81, died Sept. 20 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 28, 1929, at Brownell, the son of Abraham Lincoln and Stella (Stull) Sunley. He married Joan Weber on Aug. 30, 1950, at Ness City. She died Sept. 1, 1987. He married Melba Helm on Oct. 15, 1988, at Great Bend, and she survives. He was a route salesman for Suburban Laundry, a carpenter for Marlette Homes and carrier for Star Route for U.S. Mail. Carl D. Morgan

CANTON - Carl D. Morgan, 64, former Canton businessman, died Sept. 18 in rural Ulysses. He was born March 2, 1946, in Syracuse, the son of Fred E. and Valera (Graham) Morgan. He was an auto mechanic and retired from Excel Industries in Hesston. On May 8, 1971, he married Helen Bahr at Olmitz. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1994. He married Cathy Strobel on April 29, 1995, in Great Bend, and she survives.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Ms. Cynthia Barnes, 53, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sept. 16. She was born on April 23, 1957, in Great Bend, the only daughter of Christian and Rosalie Peters Leiker. She graduated from Great Bend High School after receiving her elementary education at Holy Family grade school. BISON - Shirley O. Cannady, 98, of Bison, died Sept. 16 at the Rush County Nursing Home, La Crosse. She was born March 16, 1912, at Altoona, the daughter of Harry F. and Nettie C. (Wright) Davis. She married Paul M. Cannady on May 22, 1938, at Wichita. He died April 25, 1997. Mrs. Cannady was a resident of Bison since 1998, moving from Neodesha. She was a homemaker.

On Sept. 18, 1942, he married Delora McCullough in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a truck driver for Airco, Glass King and Elliott Transfer. He was owner and operator of Nuss Triangle Station and later worked for IGA and Waters True Value.

She was born July 6, 1909, in Wichita, the daughter of Schyler and Cora Belle Rogers Lutz, and was employed in the Sedgwick County Clerk's Office. She retired to Winter Haven, Fla., and moved to Stafford in 2007.

JENKS, Okla. - Sam W. Mays, Jr., 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Jenks, Okla., on Sept. 14. He was born in Pryor, Okla., July 6, 1945, the eldest child of Sam W. and Marcine McGouldrick Mays. Sam attended St. Rose Catholic School and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963. In 1966 he married Cammy McCray of Great Bend. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at Kansas State University in 1972.

She was born Feb. 28, 1914, the daughter of Edward John and Nellie Choate Isaacson of Waterville, where she lived until her parents moved to Topeka in 1921. She attended the local schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1932 after which she attended Clark Secretarial School in Topeka.
