OTIS - Magdalene T. Brack, 88, died Dec. 19 at Hays Medical Center. Born June 27, 1924, in rural Barton County, she was the daughter of Adolph and Minnie (Mater) Tuzicka. In 1942 she graduated from Otis High School. On Sept. 12, 1945, she married Eudale Brack at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis. A lifelong resident of Otis, she was the owner and operator of the Otis Cafe from 1968 to 1997. She enjoyed crocheting and flowers and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Paul Shook, 87, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Dec. 19 at the Western Maryland Regional Health Center. Born Dec. 4, 1925, in Petersburg, W.Va., he was the son of Casper A. and Susan (Bobo) Shook.
HOISINGTON - Mary Ann Wondra, 74, died Dec. 19 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born Aug. 26, 1938, in rural Barton County, the daughter of Arthur F. and Mary (Busch) Maneth. She married Bernard Wondra June 8, 1959, at Olmitz. A lifelong Barton County resident, she worked as a teller at Hoisington National bank for 25 years until retirement.
HOISINGTON - Carolyn Francis Krawetzke, 55, of Sapulpa, Okla. passed away Dec. 15, 2012. She was born Aug. 31, 1957 in Great Bend to Alois "Sonny" and Juanita (Kallaus) Hoeffner. She was a homemaker and care giver to many cats and dogs throughout her life. She was a graduate of Claflin High School, Class of 1975.
HOISINGTON - Delbert Lee Wagner, 60, died Dec. 18, 2012 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 26, 1952 at Ft. McClellan, Ala., the son of Waldine L. and Verne E. (Hamilton) Wagner
Sinh Thi Nguyen, 93, died Dec. 17 at home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 2, 1919 at Hanoi, Vietnam, she was a daughter to mother Chuc Nguyen. In 1937, she married Lam V. Tran in Hanoi, where she was a homemaker. He died in 1962. She came to the United States after the fall of Saigon, Vietnam in 1975, and she became a resident of Great Bend. She was of the Buddhist Faith.
SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Ruth W. Wynn, 87, died Dec. 15 at Mennonite Friendship Manor in South Hutchison. Born May 31, 1925 in Chase, she was the daughter of Fred Leslie and Sara Maude Elliot Willard. In 1943, she graduated from Labette county Community High School in Altamont. On Dec. 18, 1977, she married Phillip G. Wynn Jr., in Sterling. He died on Oct. 28, 2012. Formerly of Great Bend and Ellinwood, with winters spent in McAllen, Texas, she was a receptionist at Sterling Drilling Company for 14 years.
STAFFORD - Virginia Hope Sell, 78, died Dec. 17, 2012 in Pratt County. Born Sept. 1, 1934 at Richfield, she was the daughter of Arcy and Myrtle Heggy Krey. She was the owner of Ginny's Beauty Shop and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Stafford. She volunteered for several organizations in Stafford. On May 23, 1956 she married Darwin Sell at Stafford County. He died June 30, 2005.
STAFFORD - L. Evelyn Harrison, 96, died Dec. 16 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. Born Jan. 23, 1916 at the Bethel Community in Kiowa County, she was the daughter of Lulu Wilkinson Hargadine and Walter Hargadine. After her mother died on Feb. 17, 1916 she was raised by her grandparents Alice Hollingsworth Hargadine and L. E. Hargadine. On March 14, 1932 she married Donald Ray Harrison at Hutchinson. He died on Jan. 10, 1990. Along with her husband she was the owner of Ontjes-Harrison Dry Goods Store.
Esther E. Kruckenberg, 84, Great Bend, passed away early on Sunday morning, Dec. 16 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. Born on Dec. 19, 1927 in Russell, she was the daughter of Sigmund and Ernestine (Becker) Keil. The family moved to Great Bend in 1940, and she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1945. Esther was united in marriage to Lyman L. Kruckenberg on Dec. 15, 1946 in Larned, and the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary the day before her death. BELPRE - Katrina Marie Holzinger, 22, died Dec. 15, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Born June 27, 1990 at Fort Polk, La., she was the daughter of Jonathon D. Holzinger and Deana Raye Hall. She was a longtime resident of Belpre, recently from Great Bend, she was a Detention Officer of Barton County Sheriff office, Great Bend. She was of the Christian Faith.
OSBORNE - Kenneth G. "Shorty" Hackerott, formally of Pawnee Rock, died on Feb. 28, 2015, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne. Born on July 17, 1936, in Rooks County, he was the son of Otto R. Hackerott and Belle (Mitchell) Hackerott. He loved books, old cars, trucks and tractors and enjoyed the 3-I shows.

Born Jan. 3, 1937, in Comanche County, at her Aunt Faye's farm house, she was the daughter of John and Lillie Cline. In 1954, she graduated from Ness City High School. GARFIELD - Naomi L. Converse, 76, went to Heaven on May 10, at Via Christi Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Born Dec. 11, 1938, in Larned, she was the daughter of Vernon Henry and Ella Angela Wilson Meckfessel. A lifetime area resident, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, nana and aunt.
