Rowena Frances (Thompson) Keener, 83, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 8, 2016, at her home in Great Bend after a long battle with cancer. Born on Sept. 16, 1932, at Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of George Ellis and Freida Madeline (Hackstadt) Thompson. A resident of Great Bend since the early 1950's she worked in the laundry at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend for many years. Rowena loved to sew, enjoyed quilting, tole painting, and crocheting.
Olga Louise Welch, 102, died June 5, 2016, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Jan. 25, 1914, at Coffeyville, she was the daughter of Henry Ernest and Bertha (Sitz) Pomrenke. She married James Arthur "Jim" Welch Sept. 24, 1947, at Great Bend. He died Sept. 2, 2001. Olga had been a Great Bend resident since 1947. Before her marriage, she was an office manager for several Western Union offices in Kansas and Missouri and later was a nurses' aide at Central Kansas Medical Center. Harold Martin Schenk, 98, died June 4, 2016, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. Born Feb. 17, 1918, in Olmitz, he was the son of William and Amelia (Spitzka) Schenk. On Oct. 8, 1947, he married Wilma Jean Nagel in Great Bend. She died Feb. 3, 1993. He then married Wilma Jean (Stukey) Burton on Dec. 14, 1996, in Olmitz. She died July 27, 2013. A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Olmitz, he was a pumper for Aspen Drilling, Western Petroleum, Chapman Drilling and Ryan Drilling. He enjoyed traveling and square dancing.
HUDSON - Marilyn E. Teichmann, 82, died June 4, 2016, at her home. Born Jan. 9, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Jesse and Blanche Danford Walter. In 1951, she graduated from Great Bend High School. On Sept. 26, 1954, she married Merle Teichmann at Hudson. She was a secretary/clerk for Ida Long Goodman Library and was a dedicated farm wife.
TRUMBULL, Neb. - Charles Kuhlman, 88, went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2016. Charles was born in Olmitz in 1927, to Rudolph and Angela Kuhlman. He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy, and graduated from St. Ann's High School at Olmitz. In 1950 he was united in marriage to Catherine (Finger). He farmed in Lane County for several years before his employment at the Trumbull Harmon Grain Storage as Assistant Manager from 1958-1981. He then worked at the Trumbull Coop from 1981-1990 as the Credit Manager.
Curtis L. Whaley, 48, died May 29, 2016, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Born Jan. 31, 1968, in Garden City, he was the son of Curtis A. and Mary (Cody) Whaley. On July 4, 1997, he married Annie Reynolds in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 19 years, coming from Larned, he was a driver for Old Dominion Freight Lines.
LARNED - Eldred Earnestine (Sanders) Dipman, age 93, formerly of Larned, passed away May 30, 2016, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. Eldred was born July 10, 1922 at home in Rodney, Arkansas, to parents Ida Matilda Langston and James Elbert Sanders, the next to the youngest of seven children.
Lawrence "L. D." Davis, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, went home to be with his Heavenly Father at Great Bend Regional Hospital on May 27, 2016. Born Sept. 6, 1931, at Oswego, he was the son of Lawrence James and Cora (Helton) Davis. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1949. Mr. Davis served in the United States Navy in San Diego in 1951.
