PRATT - Carla Diane Smith, 48, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. Born June 5, 1968, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Benny Glenn and Helen Louise (Ridge) Bailey. On Sept. 19, 1997, she married Durwin K. Smith in Pratt. He survives.
NORMAN, Okla. - Charles Wayne Dixon, 86, died on March 20, 2017. Born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Dill City, Okla., he was the son of Hurl Charles and Odessa (Bookout) Dixon. Charles grew up in Dill City, Okla., graduating from Dill City High School, where he played baseball and basketball. After high school Charles joined the Marines and fought in the Korean War. After his service he proudly joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Edwin Dwayne Deckert, 90, died March 21, 2017, at Great Bend. Born Jan. 5, 1927, at Great Bend, he was the son of Edward and Ricky (Unruh) Deckert. He attended the Pawnee Rock schools. On Aug. 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janis Dierking of Stafford. They made their home on the family farm northwest of Pawnee Rock for 40 years. He was a farmer and long-time conservationist, plumber and welder. After retiring to Great Bend, he enjoyed traveling and golf. He was the proud father of two daughters, Rhonda Gayle and Sondra Lynn.
HOLYROOD - Marilyn A. Showalter, 74, passed away March 4, 2017, in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 29, 1942, in Ellsworth, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Caroline (Stoltenberg) Horejsi. On Dec. 26, 1964, she married Richard Showalter in Holyrood. A longtime resident of Ellsworth County, she received her bachelor's degree in education and was a teacher for a number of years and a homemaker. She also worked other odd jobs throughout her life. She painted houses, grew and maintained a large garden, did fire damage restoration, and did farm work.
HOISINGTON - Edward Allen Ruble, 97, died March 19, 2017, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born May 12, 1919, in Hoisington, he was the son of William Monroe and Blanche Grace (Clift) Ruble. In 1938 he graduated from Hoisington High School. He then worked in construction for the Works Progress Administration, helping to build Hoisington High School, before joining the Army. When returning home he worked in the oil fields for D.H. Cook and Company.
CLAFLIN - Vivian E. Grossardt, 94, died March 16, 2017 at The Good Samaritan Society Home, Ellsworth. She was born March 27, 1922 in Hoisington, the daughter of Paul and Rose (Müller) Radenberg. She was a lifelong Claflin resident. She was united in marriage to Harold Grossardt on Oct. 20, 1945, in Claflin. He passed away Aug. 10, 2000. She was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife.
