Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Community Church in Wichita. Burial will be at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Peace Church Cemetery, NE 140th St., north of Hudson. The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hudson Senior Center.
BURDETT - Robert C. Gorman, 83, passed away Dec. 11, 2016, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born March 16, 1933, in Waco, Texas, he was the son of J. Paul and Winnie Reagen Gorman. On Dec. 27, 1965, He married Cleo M. Warner in Burdett. She survives. A lifetime area resident he was an Oil and Gas Engineer.
HAYS - Lily Meier, 88, died Dec. 9, 2016, at the Hays Good Samaritan Society. Born Aug. 5, 1928, on the family farm north of Victoria, she was the daughter of Joseph and Salomia "Sally" (Rohleder) Dinkel. In 1947, she graduated from Victoria High School. On Oct. 8, 1955, she married Ralph Meier at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1974. Irene Ruth Ledford, 93, died Dec. 11, 2016, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Dec. 20, 1922, at Wheatland Township in Barton County, she was the daughter of Reinhold and Amalia "Mollie" (Beisel) Nuss. On Sept. 21, 1941, she married Albert M. "Bud" Jay. He died Oct. 25, 1969. She then married Earl Ledford on Aug. 15, 1970. He died May 24, 1987. A lifetime Barton County resident, she was a telephone operator for AT&T.
S. Larry Edwardson, 79, died Dec. 10, 2016, at Cherry Village in Great Bend. Born May 11, 1937, at Crisfield, MD., he was the son of Christian F. and Grace (Hoffmeyer) Edwardson. On May 15, 1965, he married Carole Powell, in Wilmington, DE. He retired from a long career as a Certified Financial Planner with Waddell & Reed Inc.
HOISINGTON - Esther Maureen Yeakley, 78, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 9, 2016, at Almost Home, Inc. in Great Bend. Born Feb. 13, 1938, at Penokee, she was the daughter of John David and Ruth Emily (Rice) McRae. In 1955, she graduated from Hill City High School and then attended Kansas State University. HOISINGTON - Gary D. Cropp, 81, died Dec. 9, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital. He was born June 6, 1935, on the farm in Avard, Okla., the son of Earl N. and Bonnie M. (Millsap) Cropp. He graduated from Avard High School, Avard, Okla., and received his Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from Northwestern Oklahoma State, Alva, Okla.
EATON RAPIDS, Mich. - Kirk Stuart Clone passed away suddenly in his home on Dec. 7, 2016, from many heart complications. He was born Aug. 29, 1962, in Jackson, Michigan. He grew up in Vista, Calif., Manhattan, Kan., and Great Bend, returning to Eaton Rapids in 1980.
Darrell O. Batchman, 80, died Dec. 9, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born July 21, 1936, at Great Bend, he was the son of Alvin Otis and Neva Grace (Stone) Batchman. On Aug. 7, 1955, he married Audrey Ann Geil at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albert. She died July 27, 2016. A lifetime Barton County resident, Mr. Batchman was electrician group leader for Marlette Homes, worked in preventive maintenance at United Technology (Essex), and retired as an electrician at Larned State Hospital. Leslie Lowell Workman, 78, died Dec. 8, 2016, at his home in Great Bend. Born June 14, 1938, at Great Bend, he was the son of Leslie Lowell and Mathilda (Krkosska) Workman Sr. On April 15, 1972, he married Jean Marie Mausolf at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was a serviceman for NCR. He enjoyed attracting purple martins, was involved in Boy Scouts and loved his grandchildren.
Doris June McFarren, 84, died Dec. 1, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka. Born Oct. 31, 1932, at Brownell, she was the daughter of John and Bertha (Foos) Helwig. On Nov. 30, 1950, she married Clayton McFarren at Bazine. He died Feb. 23, 2010. A Great Bend resident since 1972, coming from Dighton, Mrs. McFarren was a grocery store clerk and bookkeeper for McFarren Motors.
