Carrol Black, 75, died March 24, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. Born Aug. 5, 1941, at Decatur, Ark., she was the daughter of Harold Richard and Georgia Irene (Appling) Drew. On Nov. 14, 1973, she married Tommy Alfred Stacey at Safford, Ariz. He died July 9, 1981. She was a CNA for Anthony Community Care.
JoAnn Macurdy, 84, died March 8, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1932, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Bacon) Courtright. She was a graduate of Ellinwood High School and Wichita State University with a degree in accounting and secretarial services. She married James Lynn Macurdy Sept. 29, 1951, at Ellinwood. He died Sept. 3, 1998. A longtime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Macurdy was a bookkeeper for her husband at Macurdy's Hatchery and Great Bend Poultry Company and later for Brentwood, Ltd. and McDonald's.
Joseph A. Young, 47, of Great Bend passed away at his home on Friday, March 24, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Joe was born on April 11, 1969, at Medicine Lodge, to Bernard C. and Teresa E. (Felton) and grew up and attended school in Pratt. Joe worked as a carpenter in the construction trade for many years, and also worked in landscaping. He was united in marriage to Linda (Thimesch) Leslie on Nov. 16, 2002, at Hutchinson. The couple lived in Colorado and Hutchinson prior to moving to Great Bend three years ago. PRATT - Carla Diane Smith, 48, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. Born June 5, 1968, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Benny Glenn and Helen Louise (Ridge) Bailey. On Sept. 19, 1997, she married Durwin K. Smith in Pratt. He survives.
NORMAN, Okla. - Charles Wayne Dixon, 86, died on March 20, 2017. Born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Dill City, Okla., he was the son of Hurl Charles and Odessa (Bookout) Dixon. Charles grew up in Dill City, Okla., graduating from Dill City High School, where he played baseball and basketball. After high school Charles joined the Marines and fought in the Korean War. After his service he proudly joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Edwin Dwayne Deckert, 90, died March 21, 2017, at Great Bend. Born Jan. 5, 1927, at Great Bend, he was the son of Edward and Ricky (Unruh) Deckert. He attended the Pawnee Rock schools. On Aug. 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janis Dierking of Stafford. They made their home on the family farm northwest of Pawnee Rock for 40 years. He was a farmer and long-time conservationist, plumber and welder. After retiring to Great Bend, he enjoyed traveling and golf. He was the proud father of two daughters, Rhonda Gayle and Sondra Lynn.
