HATFIELD, Ark. - Lanny Lee Brummel, 75, of Hatfield, Ark., died Feb. 22, 2017, at home. Born on April 9, 1941, in Ottawa, he was the son of Gilbert and Roberta Wade Brummel. He was a police officer in Kansas for 30 years.
Louise Brown Gunn, 93, died Feb. 22, 2017, at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. She was born May 17, 1923, at Great Bend, the daughter of Joe and Ethel (Parker) Brown. She was a 1942 graduate of Great Bend High School. On Jan. 9, 1942, she married Glenn Gunn at Great Bend. He died April 23, 1982. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Gunn worked for Barton County Soil Conservation Service and later retired after many years from Fuller Brush Company.
Edis Mae (Tustin) Switzer Schauvliege, 94, died Feb. 22, 2017, at Cherry Village in Great Bend. She was born June 15, 1922, at Gove County, the daughter of Lloyd Jacob and Mary Elizabeth (Simpson) Tustin. She married Neil Switzer April 24, 1947, at Hays. He died Oct. 26, 1967. She then married Cliff Schauvliege in January 1972 in New Mexico. He died Nov. 29, 1993. A Great Bend resident since 1960, coming from Oakley, also living in Garden City, Goddard and Wichita, Mrs. Schauvliege was executive director for Red Cross and previously worked in the fabric department at Sears, was ...
HOLYROOD - Glenn Harvey Gabbard, Sr., 83, died Feb. 16, 2017. He was born Aug. 17, 1933 in Afton, Okla., to Silas Miller and Martha (Warren) Gabbard. He married June Reichard in Miami, Okla., on Oct. 18, 1961. He was a mechanic at a service station in Oklahoma and Great Bend.
ST. JOHN - Janice Marie (Richmeier) Nusser, 57, passed away on Feb. 17, 2017, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born on June 23, 1959, at Hoxie, she was the daughter of E. J. (Elmer) and Mary Jean (Aich) Richmeier. A resident of St. John since 1975, she graduated from St. John High School in 1977 and attended the Sydney Hairdressing College. On Nov. 19, 1977, she married Phillip E. Nusser at St. John. He survives. She was a Medical Receptionist for the Stafford County Health Department in St. John.

ELLINWOOD - Iris LaVern (Buckbee) Pohlman, 84, passed away on Feb. 18, 2017, in Ellinwood. Born on Oct. 24, 1932, in Ellinwood she was the daughter of Roy and Elizabeth (Heinze) Buckbee. She was a lifetime Ellinwood resident.
ELLINWOOD - Alice Marie Wineinger, 89, passed away on Feb. 15, 2017, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Aug. 9, 1927, at rural Haddam, she was the daughter of John Rhine and Myrtle Mae (Williams) Rhine. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Haddam. Upon graduation from Haddam High School, she taught school in rural Clyde and Cuba schools. On Jan. 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Ross Wineinger. CLAFLIN - Margaret Julia Smith (Miller), 99, died Feb. 18, 2017, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born Feb. 26, 1917, at Claflin, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Carey) Miller. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Claflin and graduated from Claflin High School. She married Warren T. Smith Aug. 17, 1936, at Claflin. He died Dec. 29, 1994. A lifetime Claflin resident, Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and worked at Komarek Jewelers in Great Bend as a sales associate.
CHANDLER, ARIZ. - Babette "Babs" Kinderknecht, age 61, passed away Feb. 10, 2017 surrounded by family in her home in Chandler, Ariz., after a long battle with diabetes and renal failure. She has embarked on her last travel to Heaven surrounded with Angels, to be with her Heavenly Father. Babette retired from American Airlines and worked in different capacities for the company.
Eugene Ernest Hallett, 84, died Feb. 16, 2017, at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 6, 1933, at Rush Center, the son of Ernest Glen and Zelma Mae (Moore) Hallett. He married Carol E. Ochs Sept. 22, 1956, at LaCrosse. He was a maintenance worker at the Mullergren Plant for 35 years and a lifelong farmer at Rush Center. He was a resident of Great Bend. Mr. Hallett was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
