BEAVER, Okla. - Roy Lee Bobeck, 80, of Beaver, Okla., passed away Oct. 19, 2015, at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital. Born on April 7, 1935, in Great Bend, he was the son of Edward and Clara Mae Bobeck. On May 22, 1953, he graduated from Great Bend High School. On March 17, 1957, he married his longtime sweetheart, Shirley Fay Kimber. He worked for Exxon for 33 years as a pumper.
SAINT PETER - Skip M. Yowell, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at his home in Saint Peter. He was born in Hays, to Harold and Marjorie (Murray) Yowell. He spent his early years in Grainfield, moving to Great Bend at the age of 5. He started kindergarten at Park Elementary School and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1964.
LARNED - Brett Meyers, 51, passed away on Oct. 17, 2015, in Newton. He was born in Larned on June 14, 1964, the son of Terry and Betty Meyers. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1982, and graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business.
Wendale E. McAllaster, M. D., F. A. C. S., 90, died Oct. 18, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1924, at Greeley County, the son of Rollin Marquis and Edna Pearl (Stahley) McAllaster.
RUSSELL - Marvin J. Dumler died Oct. 5, 2015. Born Sept. 7, 1921, in rural Russell County, he was the son of Jacob and Lydia Dumler. He attended Valparaiso University in Indiana where he earned his BA in education in 1943. He then signed up for officers' training school at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in the Chicago area.
HOLYROOD - Jared Paul Langston, 35, returned to his heavenly home Oct. 13, 2015, passing away in Weld County, Colorado. He was born Oct. 29, 1979, at Great Bend, the son of Roger and Joyce (Bauvso) Langston.
WICHITA - Robert Alan Jordan Sr., 85, died on Oct. 10, 2015, at Via Christi Villages in Wichita. Born near Claflin, he was the son of Elmer Charles and Georgia Martha (Houska) Jordan. He grew up in Gypsum and was a resident of Great Bend most of his life. On Sept. 3, 1949, he married Elda Jean (Clothier) Jordan in Wichita. He was employed by the Electric Company as storeroom keeper and then the director of purchasing.
LARNED - Leonard A. Finger, 93, passed away Oct. 15, 2015, at his home in Larned. Born Aug. 1, 1922, in Odin, he was the son of Francis J. and Clara C. Demel Finger. A lifetime area resident, he was an irrigation farmer and a ewe flock producer. On May 11, 1948, he married Agnes Ann Vondracek, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken, in a double wedding ceremony with his brother Marvin Finger and Agnes's cousin Helen Pechanec.
LYONS - Benjamin "Ben" Jesse Bates, 41, died Oct. 13, 2015, at Weld County, Colorado. He was born Nov. 13, 1973, at Powell, Wyoming, the son of Steven and Mary Walters Bates. He graduated from Teton High School in 1992, and then graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho with a Construction Management degree. He married Angela "Angie" Leigh Barnard on May 2, 1997, at Salt Lake City, Utah. A Lyons since 2008, formerly of Driggs, Idaho, he was owner-president of WestCrete-Concrete.
ST. JOHN - Barbara L. Watson was born on Feb, 6, 1931, in Seymour, Mo., to Rudy and Rachel Schroeder and gained her heavenly wings on Oct. 9, 2015. Barbara graduated from Seymour High School in 1948 and married Herman Watson on May 23, 1948. A short time later they moved to St. John to make their home. ELLINWOOD - Shirley A. Heaton, 79, passed away at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood on Oct. 12, 2015. Born Sept. 25, 1936, in Ronan, Mont., she was the daughter of Archie E. Berry and Alice (Frazier) Bader. She worked as a homemaker, drove a school bus, and was a cook for the hospital in Lakin. She loved to play bingo and cards.
NORMAN, Okla. - Betty Jane Welch Gruber died Oct. 7, 2015, at her home in Norman. She was born Jan. 27, 1926, to Elmer and Inez Jane (Jackson) Welch. She married Arthur Carroll Gruber in Hoisington, on Nov. 22, 1944. They lived all over the world, with Art's work taking them to Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Wyoming; Venezuela and South America; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Tokyo, Japan; and Cairo, Egypt. They retired in Norman, Okla., to be near their children.
William "Wild Bill" Vsetecka, 89, died Oct. 10, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born April 9, 1926, at Timken, the son of Emil and Amilia Vsetecka. He married Dolores J. Vsetecka Aug. 29, 1951, at Great Bend. She died Aug. 8, 1998. A longtime Great Bend resident, William was a truck driver for Graves Truckline, until retirement.
