RUSSELL - Betty JoAnne (Kilian) Dumler, 89, died Nov. 18, 2016, at the Stratford Commons memory care facility of Overland Park, surrounded by nine family members, following complications from a fall. Betty was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Russell, to Alma (Mai) and Sam Kilian. The beautiful Russell High School drum majorette married dashing high school track and football star, Richard Henry Dumler, on June 1, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Russell. Earlene Marie (Kiger) Nairn, 84, died Nov. 20, 2016, at Leisure Homestead, St. John. Born June 8, 1932, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Rossie Earl and Marjorie Adell (Moore) Kiger. She married Nolen Gene Nairn on Oct. 8, 1950 at First Church of the Nazarene, Great Bend. He died Nov. 17, 2015. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a vice-president of Security State Bank and UMB Bank.
W.H. "Tag" Hendricks passed away Nov. 20, 2016, in Salina. Born May 27, 1925, in Raymond he was the son of Roy Emerson Hendricks and Lottie Gable Hendricks. He married Eva J. Lackey. They later divorced.
TRIBUNE - Dennis William White, 74, died Nov. 21, 2016, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune. Born April 25, 1942, at Hays he was the son of Kenneth William and Helen Lathene (Graham) White. On April 29, 1962, he married Donna Monene Rankin in South San Gabriel, Calif. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2014. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a signal maintainer while in Hoisington and later wiring cabinets at the relay shops in Sedalia, Mo.
Juanita May "Nita" Ratzlaff, 73, died Sept. 27, 2016, at her home in Great Bend. She was born May 1, 1943, at Beldenville, Wisc., the daughter of John and Mildred (Klein) Gilbertson. She was a waitress and manager of Hong Kong Restaurant and also had a painting business. She raised and showed Persian cats, and enjoyed cooking, gardening and yardwork.
RADIUM - Beulah F. (Susie) Vratil, 99, passed away Nov. 17, 2016, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born on Oct. 17, 1917, in Stafford County she was the daughter of Earl Sr. and Jessie Carr. She grew up on a farm near Radium and graduated from Radium High School in 1935. In 1937, she married Eddy Vratil, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before Eddy's death in 2002. Susie and Eddy farmed near Radium for many years before moving to Larned in retirement years. She and Eddy enjoyed cooking, card playing and traveling.
ST. JOHN - Bertie Lou Hayden, 88, passed away on Nov. 15, 2016, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born on Sept. 17, 1928, in rural Hudson, she was the daughter of Jacob and Nettie (Ricker) Siefkes. On Dec. 22, 1951, she married Leo L. Hayden of Hudson. He survives, of the home. She was a graduate of Emporia State Teachers College. A life-long Stafford County resident, she was a retired school teacher.
Tamara Ann Pfeifer, 47, of Great Bend formerly of Hays, passed away Nov. 16, 2016, in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 19, 1969, in Hays, to James J. Pfeifer and Norma Jean "Jeannie" Munsch. She graduated from Hays High in 1987 and attended Garden City Vo-Tech.
Eileen Montgomery, 99, Topeka, formerly of Holyrood, KS passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. She was born August 17, 1917, in Pierceville, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Orf) Borger. She graduated from Pierceville High School and Halstead Hospital Nursing School with her RN.
