Philip Leon Ward, 76, passed away at Hays Medical Center on March 11, 2018. He was born to Virgil Slocum and Margaret Ward on December 8, 1941 in Great Bend KS. He married Sharon Ensle in Hoisington Kansas, she preceded him in death in 1968.

Maryleen W. Brown, 94, passed away March 9, 2018 at her home in rural Great Bend. She was born October 18. 1923 on a farm, 5 mi. east of at Bison, Kansas. Her parents were Claus J. and Marie (Scheureman) Meier. She attended a one-room school in Rush County and graduated from Otis Rural High School in 1941. She attended college at Fort Hays State and taught in a one-room school near Albert, KS.

Clarence R. Barta passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Almost Home in Great Bend, Kansas at the age of 89. He was born on Sept. 2, 1928, on the family farm in Ellsworth County, Kansas near Wilson, to the late Oda and Eleanor (Svaty) Barta. Before finishing high school he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served for three years.

GREAT BEND - Karlyn "Koggi" Sullivan, 82, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Cherry Village Care Home in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Hays, the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Anderson) Hickey. She was united in marriage to Russell Dale Sullivan on July 29, 1954, in Duncan, Okla. He preceded her in death July 11, 1990.

He was born April 19, 1945, to Fritz Diedrich and Bernice Elaine (Dorshaffer) Essmiller. Jim married Sandra Sue Hagerman; they were later divorced. He married Linda (Melton) Stoskopf March 20, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a fourth-generation farmer and practiced accounting from 1969 until 1985.
