MIDLAND, TEXAS - Joyce Marie (Ewald) Leiker, 86, Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Joyce was born March 17, 1930 in Great Bend to Smith Joseph Ewald and Rose E. Schartz. She graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, Daniel J. Leiker, on June 7, 1949 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood. She was a dedicated mom and homemaker while living in Bushton and St. John.
Tom W. Van Brimmer, 82, died Aug. 3, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born in Hoisington on July 6, 1934, the son of Willis D. and Opal (Sypolt) Van Brimmer. He graduated from Hoisington High School, class of 1952, and later attended Bible College in Oklahoma. Tom was a longtime resident of Hoisington with exception of time in Great Bend and Stockton.
Ian R. Shuey, 30, passed away July 28, 2016. Born March 30, 1986, in Great Bend he was the son of Paul Shryock and Kelley Shuey. He was employed with Chism's Trash Service in Great Bend as a truck driver.
LARNED - Jerry M. Dailey, 78, died July 30, 2016 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. He was born Dec. 7, 1937, at Great Bend, the son of John W. "Jack" and Edith Ann (Kummer) Dailey. He was a security guard for a medical clinic in Tulsa, Okla.
LARNED - Betty K. Unruh, 95, passed away July 30, 2016 at Country living, Larned. She was born Sept. 12, 1920 the daughter of Willis E. and Clara Huenergardt Healzer. An area resident since 1952, she was an office Manager at Farm Credit.
OTIS - Gerald J. Steele, 58, Otis, died July 22, 2016, at his home. He was born Nov. 8, 1957, in Olivet, the son of Gerald L. and Delores M. (Criqui) Steele. He was a 30-year resident of Otis, moving from Great Bend.
Ellen Jane Schuler, 83, passed away July 24, 2016 in Wichita. She was born May 31, 1933 in West Bend, Iowa to Irma and Leo Buttemore. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Anderson; and grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson and Robert Anderson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Schuler.
ELLINWOOD - Larry N. Rickert, 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 28, 2016, in Hutchinson. Born on Dec. 21, 1931, near Ellinwood he was the son of John and Elizabeth (Klepper) Rickert. In 1949, he graduated from Ellinwood High School. He later married Lorraine Matza. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2015. They settled in Ellinwood where they were residents for 52 years. Mr. Rickert served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
