Ralph A. Fink, 83, died March 24 at Hays Medical Center. Born Sept. 22, 1929 in Codell, he was the son of Ezekiel and Ethel (Stout) Fink. On May 29, 1955 he married Lillian L. Allen in Stafford. She died on Nov. 24, 2000. A resident of Great Bend since 2010, coming from Larned, he was employed as an aide at Larned State Hospital, previously working on a section gang for the railroad and in the oilfield.
SEDGWICK - Terry Lee Serpan, 60, died March 22. Born October 3, 1952, in La Crosse, he was the son of Gene and Delores (Talbott) Serpan.
CLAFLIN -- Jeanette Aileen Oliphant, 96, died March 24, at Leawood. She was born November 28, 1916 at Claflin, Kan., to Walter L. and Emma (Schreiner) Larson. A lifelong Claflin resident, she was a 1934 graduate of Claflin High School. She married Charles E. Oliphant on March 9, 1950 in Salina. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1973.
ELLINWOOD - Deborah A. Herrman, 59, died March 25 at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. Born May 5, 1953 at Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Edwin L. Corbett, Jr. and Ruth (Hekele) Corbett.
LYONS - Paul E. Kern, 87, died March 22 at Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. He was born Dec. 13, 1925, at Frederick, the son of Frank Mathias and Ina Lavern "Verna" Maxwell Kern. He graduated from Bushton High School in 1943. He married Verna Lee Adams on May 10, 1946, at Wichita. She died June 16, 2006. A lifelong area resident, he was a lifetime farmer.

Isabella "Issy" Nuss, 90, died March 21 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born March 2, 1923, in Rush County, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Tammen) Schneider. She married Vernon L. Nuss June 16, 1946, at Great Bend. He died Dec. 27, 1992.

STAFFORD - Donald Gene Newell, 63, died March 16 at the Stafford County Hospital. Born April 28, 1949 in Stafford, he was the son of Donald Gene and Dorothy Marenchin Newell. Jane Anne (Fisher) Engleman, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Lawrence, June 6, 2013. She was born Sept. 17, 1920 in Wichita Falls, Texas, daughter of William L. and Valeria Belle (Astin) Fisher. She married the love of her life, Dale Engleman on Nov. 21, 1944 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He died Oct. 17, 2005.

MINNESOTT BEACH, N.C. - Judy Mershon Huber Wolfenbarger, 77, of Minnesott Beach, N.C., passed away June 4. Born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 4, 1935, she was the daughter of Andrew B. and Dorothy Mershon Huber. Her family moved to Mt. Carroll, Ill., in 1942. An accomplished pianist, guitar player and percussionist for Mt. Carroll High School, music was an important part of her life. Her quick wit and love of ironic humor lasted throughout her lifetime.

PAONIA, Colo. - Sonja Karen Swanson-O'Connor, 71, passed away May 31, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo. Born Feb. 3, 1942 in Paonia, Colo., she was the daughter of Henry R. and Martha Ellen (Hallar). She married Maurice Guy O'Connor. They moved to Montana where they made their home in the Lolo Creek Valley for the next 25 years where she raised her family, later divorcing in 1985.
