DERBY - Maurine Carol Yeager, 92, of Derby and former Russel resident, died May 6 at the Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Maurine was born in Selden, the daughter of Glen and Sylvia (Crabill) Schrock. She grew up in the Selden area and graduated from Selden High School. After high school she attended Brown Mackie College to train as a business secretary. SMITHVILLE, Mo. - Lewis L. Basye, 73, of Smithville, Mo., passed away May 8. Born Sept. 21, 1940, in Kanopolis, he was the son of Richard and Velma (Anderson) Basye. He grew up in Claflin and graduated from Claflin High School. He then served his country in the United States Air Force as a B-52 Crew Chief during the Vietnam War. WICHITA - Lee Allen Schroeder, 47, passed away May 9, at his residence in Wichita. Born Dec. 19, 1966, in Larned, he was the son of Gary Burris and Mary Kay Ruth Hazel Schroeder. Lee grew up in Great Bend and had lived in Wichita for the last 4-5 years. On Oct. 26, 1988, he married Patricia Richard in Hutchinson. She survives. He loved sports, fishing and was a Chiefs, KU, Royals and a Yankees fan, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
ODIN - Janet Hipp, 72, died May 11, at her home in rural Claflin. She was born March 2, 1942, in Great Bend, the daughter of Jim and Cecelia Lorene (Pundsack) Keeley. Janet, a lifelong resident of the area, graduated from Radium High School and completed nurse's training at the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend. On Oct. 12, 1963, she married Thomas Hipp in Seward. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2006.
Diane Gowdy, 64, of Iola, formerly of Great Bend, died Dec. 13, 2013, at her home. Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Fri., May 16, 2014, on what would have been her 65th birthday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
GARFIELD - Rose Marie Wagner, 87, passed away on May 8, at the Medicalodge of Kinsley. Born April 27, 1927, in Larned, she was the daughter of Herbert Charles and Mamie Latham Miller. A lifetime area resident, she was a farm wife. On April 11, 1954, she married Arthur Melroy Wagner Jr. in Garfield. He survives.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Flora J. Grace, 90, formerly of Great Bend, died April 15, at home in Prescott, Ariz. Born May 18, 1923, in Ruleton, she was the daughter of Antonio and Guadalupe (Mendez) Manzo. She attended school in Ruleton and Goodland.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Gerald (Jerry) Leroy Dean, 79, passed peacefully on April 8, in Surprise, Ariz. Born July 30, 1934, in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Forest and Mary (Haubert) Dean. On Jan. 4, 1959, he married Vera Duncan. Jerry was a longtime resident of Denver, Colo. and then retired to a farm north of Hoisington until moving to Surprise, Ariz.

Grace M. Conard, 82, died May 3 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. Born Sept. 11, 1931, in Waverly, she was the daughter of Mervin and Norma (Dawson) Estep. She married Harold Smith. They later divorced. She then married Jack Conard. They later divorced. A resident of Great Bend since 1970, coming from Larned, she was a housekeeper for Fuller Brush and Central Kansas Medical Center and worked as a cook at the American Legion Argonne Post 180, all of Great Bend.

Willa Mae Springfeldt, 93, died July 10, at Almost Home in Great Bend. Born July 11, 1920, in Springfield, Mo., she was the daughter of William and Ethel Mae (Renfro) Teem. On Nov. 23, 1940, she married Virgil L. Springfeldt in Cottonwood Falls. He died on June 7, 1992. A resident of Great Bend since 1972, coming from Bushton, she and her husband were owner and operator of IGA of Bushton and Kwik Shop in Great Bend. She enjoyed playing the piano and cello.
Dennis A. Munoz, 66, longtime resident of Great Bend, passed away at his Great Bend home on Wednesday afternoon, July 9. Born Dec. 10, 1947, in Great Bend, he was the son of Frank and Katherine (Pyles) Munoz. In 1965, he graduated from Great Bend High School.
HOLLYWOOD, FLA.- Esther Dunham, 89, died Dec. 2, 2013 at Golfcrest Health Care Center, Hollywood, Fla. Born July 16, 1924 at Scottsbluff, Neb., she was the daughter of Lee Selby and Alice Butler. She married Jack Dunham June 9, 1945 at Hays, Kan. A former resident of Great Bend before moving to Florida, she was employed at J. C. Penney and the Barton County Health Department until her retirement.
ELLINWOOD--Joyce Marie Fullbright, 83, passed away in Ellinwood on July 10. Born Oct. 1, 1930 in Georgetown, Ark., she was the daughter of Briles and Myrtle (Chambers) Andrews.

Larry Randall Miller, 55, died May 31, in San Diego, Calif. Born March 10, 1959 at Great Bend, he was the son of Harold S. and Dorothy J. Miller. He joined the Coast Guard in 1978, working as a corpsman and was awarded a letter from President Ronald Reagan for saving a life. He attended Wichita State University on the GI Bill and later worked as a respiratory therapist and cardiology technician. He married Bernadette Alison December 31, 1990 at San Diego.

WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Theresa A. Wornkey, 81, died July 6, at Memorial Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Born Jan. 12, 1933, in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Matt and Barbara (Hiney) Apel. On April 9, 1953, she married Jim Wornkey in Ellinwood. She was a 15 year resident of Wyandotte, Okla. where she enjoyed her retired years with her husband of over 60 years. Theresa was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her life.
LARNED -Herman J. Mausolf, 85, passed away July 7 at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1929 in Albert; the son of Herman E. and Anna D. Jurgensen Mausolf. A longtime area resident he was a Chief Security Officer at the Larned State Hospital, retiring in 1991.
