Darrell I. Rexwinkle, 80, died Dec. 4, 2016, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born June 3, 1936, at Edna, he was the son of Clifford L. and Opaline O. (Goodwin) Rexwinkle. On March 12, 1955, he married Dixie Colleen Childress at Valeda. A Great Bend resident since 1969, coming from rural northeast Oklahoma, he was a ranch hand, a cattle buyer for Thies Packing, a diesel mechanic for R & S Transportation, and maintenance man for Barton County Historical Society.
ELLINWOOD - Ural G. "Jack" Clair, 86, died Dec. 4, 2016, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1930, in rural Edwards County, he was the son of Thomas and Frieda Ingerham Clair. In 1948 he graduated from Lewis High School. On Nov. 27, 1952, he married Jeanette Kowalsky in San Francisco, Calif. She died on Oct. 22, 1987. On Dec. 7, 1990, he married Bernita K. Urban Schloemer in Ellinwood. She died on April 27, 2015. He was the owner of Jack's Welding, retiring in 1995.
Able Lee King Jr., 60, died Nov. 25, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 26, 1955, he was the son of Able Lee and Nancy (Harris) King. On May 16, 1985, he married Shirley A. McCoy, at Montrose, Ark.
Howard Nathan "Nate" Davis, 78, died Nov. 30, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 15, 1938, at Lawton, Okla., he was the son of Howard W. and Mary Doris (Ketchum) Davis. He married Natalyn C. Gould Dec. 25, 1959, at Duncan, Okla. A longtime Great Bend resident, coming from Gunnison, Colo., Mr. Davis worked in maintenance and security for Central Kansas Medical Center and Turner Farms for many years.
MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. - Ralph "Jim" Irving Carson, 62, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born April 7, 1954, in Salina, the son of Donna L. (Shelton) and Jimmie Kent Carson. He worked as an inventory control supervisor at Great Bend Manufacturing and was a machinist at Great Plains Manufacturing. He married Peggy Coleen Belden on April 21, 1973, in Salina.
HAYS - Alfreda J. "Freda" Broetzmann, 78, died Nov. 29, 2016, at her home in Hays. Born Sept. 25, 1938, in Schaffer, she was the daughter of Phillip and Esther (Tittel) Foos. She grew up in Great Bend, a graduate of Great Bend High School, moving to Hays in 2011. On May 27, 1956, she married Ronald E. Broetzmann at Holyrood. She was a bookkeeper at the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department in Pratt for ten years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Robert L. "Bob" Allford Jr., 84, died Nov. 28, 2016, at Almost Home, Inc. in Great Bend. Born Nov. 20, 1932, at Wellington, Texas, he was the son of Robert Lacy and Thelma Susie (Elliott) Allford. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in voice and English from Wayland Baptist College, then furthered his education in Psychology and English, earning his Master of Arts degree in Education. ELLINWOOD - Marlin C. Isern (Mort), 86, passed away on Nov. 26, 2016, at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. Born June 25, 1930, in rural Ellinwood he was the son of Landry and Emma H. (Manke) Isern. In 1948, he graduated from Ellinwood High School. On Sept. 4, 1960, he married Normalee Peter at United Church of Christ. A lifetime Ellinwood resident, he worked as a farmer and an electrician and was very active in the community. Marlin also was a loyal American Red Cross blood donor for many years. Mary K. Mater, age 87 years, died Saturday morning, Nov. 26, 2016 at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend. Born on July 9, 1929 at Hoisington, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary T. (Schreiber) Pelz. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1946 and then attended Washburn University at Topeka.
ROZEL - Alfred A. Ludlum, 78, passed away Nov. 25, 2016, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Jan. 23, 1938, in Moran, he was the son of Arthur E. and Margaret Laver Ludlum. On Jan. 4, 1964, he married Carol Goff in Stark. She survives. A longtime area resident, he was a retired mill manager for Pawnee Valley Feeders.
