Earl B. “Bill” Cooper 1929 - 2017

MINNEAPOLIS - Earl B. "Bill" Cooper, 87, formerly of Chase, died Saturday, March 11, 2017, in Minneapolis, Kansas. Born Aug. 16, 1929, in Shawnee, Okla., he was the son of Arthur B. and Ina May (Phillips) Cooper. He was a graduate of Chase High School. On June 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Norma J. Miller in Chase. He worked in the oil fields for many years and he retired from Thunderbird Drilling in 1994.

Ronald Lee Zahnter 1955 - 2017

Ronald Lee Zahnter, 61, passed away on March 4, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born March 8, 1955, at Syracuse, he was the son of James Alvin and Irene Margaret (Hanson) Zahnter. He grew up around Syracuse and was formerly employed as an auto and diesel mechanic at Oren Florence's Conoco Station in Syracuse, by Hurly Chevrolet in Goodland, and the John Deere Implement Dealer in Kiowa. Elmer F. Huslig 1935 - 2017

WICHITA - Elmer F. Huslig, 81, passed away March 5, 2017, in Wichita. Born Aug. 21, 1935, at Fowler, he was the son of Leo and Mary (Boor) Huslig. Elmer lived in Great Bend until he moved to Wichita in 2002. He worked for Great Bend Candy and Tobacco as well as Great Bend Music as a sales associate. His passion for music was exhibited as a drummer, playing in several bands.

Keith D. Foskett 1962 - 2017

LORRAINE - Keith D. Foskett, 54, passed away at his home on March 5, 2017. Born March 6, 1962, in Great Bend, he was the son of Harlan E. and Goldie (Foiles) Foskett. In 1992, he married Rhonda Sue Barnhill. She survives him. He worked as an auto mechanic, well pumper, and roustabout handyman.

Frances “Wilma” French 1918 - 2017

LEWISVILLE, Texas - Frances "Wilma" French, 98, passed away Feb. 24, 2017, in Lewisville, Texas. Born Sept. 2, 1918, in Hamilton, she was the eldest daughter of Thomas C. and Edith M. (Churchman) Adsmond. She was a long-time resident of Great Bend and an elementary educator of more than 50 years.

C.L. (Cliff) Schumacher 1928 - 2017

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Former Great Bend resident C.L. (Cliff) Schumacher, 88, passed away on Feb. 15, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Bentonville, Ark. after a short illness. Cliff was born on June 21, 1928, in Lyons. He served on various community boards, the Great Bend City Council and retired as president of Colonial Savings and Loan. He and his wife Patsy (Burt) Schumacher moved to Bella Vista, Ark. where they enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending winters at their desert home in Borrego Springs, CA.

Ron Cornett 1941 - 2017

HENNESSEY, Okla. - Ron Cornett, 75, died Dec. 27, 2016, at St. Mary's Regional Hospital in Enid, Okla. Born Feb. 6, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas, he was the son of C.F. and Maxine Polk Cornett. He attended Prairie Center School in rural Hoisington and Claflin and Winfield public schools. In 1959, he graduated from Claflin High School. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield. On Aug. 7, 1971, he married Mary Beth Kilgariff in Enid, Okla. He worked for various oil related companies in Winfield and Hennessey Okla. and was an over the road truck driver for 10 years.

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. - Jim (J.D.) Cameron, 77, died on Feb. 26, 2017. Born July 13, 1939, in Bellville, he was the son of Loraine and Stedman Cameron. In 1997, he moved to Alamogordo, N.M., coming from Kansas after retiring from UPS. Robert A. “Bob” Parrish 1927-2017

Robert A. "Bob" Parrish, 89, died March 2, 2017, at his home in Great Bend. He was born March 3, 1927, at Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of George Elbert and Leta Faye (Dodson) Parrish. He married Mary Belle "Polly" Pollock Sept. 1, 1949, at Kansas City, Mo. She died April 21, 2005. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was owner and operator of Parrish Motors, the Dodge automobile agency. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II.
