Gary J. Christiansen, 63, died Sept. 3 at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 1, 1947 in Vallejo, Calif., he was the son of Gerald and Nadine (Amerine) Christiansen. On Dec. 1, 1992 he married Judy L. Green in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a self-employed carpet layer.
EUDORA - Jared David Axman, 21, died Sept. 3 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1990, in Great Bend, he was the son of David A. and Cynthia K. Stricker Axman. In 2011, he graduated from Lawrence Free State High School. Jared had recently become involved with Cottonwood, Inc.

TIMKIN – Louise Marie Besperat, 79, of Timken died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. She was born Jan. 11, 1932, in rural Bison, the daughter of Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County.

OTIS - Esther Brack 98, died Aug. 31 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 17, 1912 in Otis, she was the daughter of George and Sophia (Kindsvater) Freidenberger. On April 9, 1931 she married Harry Edward Brack in Otis. He died on Jan. 21, 1984. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a nurses aid at the Rush County Memorial Hospital in LaCrosse before her retirement.

ROCKPORT, Texas - Ralph Marion Winkelman, 94, died on May 9. He was born on Feb. 27, 1919. In 1938, he graduated from Chase High School. He entered the United States Army during World War II and served with the 13th Airborne Division in France, Belgium, Ireland and Scotland. After the war he worked for Kaw Pipeline in Kansas and in 1963, transferred to Houston and worked for the pipeline division of Texaco.

WICHITA - Christine M. Suchy, 93, died May 9th. A former resident of Great Bend, she was a retired Assistant Manager for Payless Shoes. Christine was an avid gardener and crafter. Her true love was Iris. In 2006 she had an Iris introduced in her honor. Her tenacity for getting through any struggle was her finest quality.
