Arleen Whittaker will celebrate her 80th birthday with an Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 24, at St. Mark Lutheran Church at 21st and Jackson in Great Bend. Hosts for the event will be her daughters and their families, Mike and Sheryl Butler, Kelsey and Ashley of Hays and Doug and Michelle Benoit, McKenzie, Sydney, Thayne and Colby of Esbon. A resident of Great Bend since 1956, Arleen was married to the late Robert (Bob) Whittaker for 56 years. Her parents were the late Fay and Gussie Smith.
Norman Klepper of Ellinwood will celebrate his 95th birthday on June 23, with a card shower. Norman was born on June 23, 1919, in Ellinwood. His children are Larry Klepper of Ellinwood, Joyce Ware of Wichita, Richard Klepper of LaVeta, Colo., Marlene Panning of Great Bend and Diane Nemnich of Ellinwood. He has nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Louise Brack will celebrate her 90th birthday on June 6, with a card shower. She was born on June 6, 1924 in Rush County. She attended Stoney Seven School and Otis High School. On Aug. 21, 1942 she married Morris Brack. He died on May 24, 1983. She has two children, Alan Brack of Bison and Dian Quint of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Elma Laughlin Lepej will celebrate her 99th birthday on June 30, with a card shower. Elma and her twin brother, Elmer Laughlin, were born on June 30, 1916, on a farm near Alexander. They attended school in LaCrosse. On April 17, 1943, she married Joe Lepej. Elma has been a resident of Great Bend since 1965.
