Hoisington considers 1 cent sales tax; hopes to reopen week of July 7

HOISINGTON - The city of Hoisington is facing major infrastructure upgrades, including city sewage lagoons that are short-circuiting, causing problems with under treated sewage. In light of that issue as well as other infrastructure upgrades needed such as a leaking swimming pool, the Hoisington City Council discussed at its meeting on Monday, adding a one cent sales tax for items purchased in Hoisington.

Wolf Hotel benefit to be held

ELLINWOOD -Some of Ellinwood's finest performers are joining forces to perform a vocal showcase to benefit the Historic Wolf Hotel. The event's theme is "A Night With Show People," and local performers will share songs that celebrate show business and a love of performing. The cost for the event is $20 per person and includes hors d'oeuvres.

Ellinwood Police Department May Report

Approximately 149 calls for service and 131 officer initiated calls were received for the month of May. Officers responded to eight medical/fire calls. Eight arrests were made and 10 criminal summons were served in the month of May.

HOISINGTON - For the first time ever, the Kansas High School Activities Association executive board has placed middle schools into an activities league. Pratt, Larned and Hoisington were placed into the Central Kansas League for middle schools starting with the 2015-2016 school year.

ELLINWOOD - Get together and talk about the special or everyday food dishes one used to make. Remember those recipes one wanted to ask mom about or grandmother. Perhaps it would be how to make an authentic German Chocolate Cake with the fudge frosting or a banana cream pie. It is time to spend some hours this summer in front of the air conditioner looking through the old cookbooks and recipe boxes.
