Mardi Gras fundraiser to be held for Kans for Kids

Children of Barton County living with cancer will benefit from a new fundraiser hosted by Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation. The organization has announced that a Shrimp Boil will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall. The evening will kick off with a social hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with live music provided by Tony Rubio and friends.

HMSI approves loan

HOISINGTON - Hoisington Main Street, Inc.'s (HMSI) Board of Directors has approved a $10,000 loan to Kindscher's Mule Barn from its local Revolving Loan Fund. Kindscher's Mule Barn will be opening March 1, 2012 and will provide a variety of products including animal care, lawn and garden, tools, hardware, plumbing, electrical, farm supplies, automotive, paint and cleaning supplies. The business will open in the building Duckwall previously occupied.

HMS student makes honor band

A Hoisington Middle School student, Kylie Crawford, has made the middle school district honor band. She will be traveling to Dodge City on Nov. 5 to perform in the KMEA Southwest District Middle School Honor Band.

HOISINGTON - Clara Barton Hospital auxiliary will have its annual memorial Christmas ornaments for sale to benefit CBH. Memorials will be accepted from Oct. 1. through Nov. 30.

After prom meeting to be held

ELLINWOOD - The parents of Ellinwood High School School students will have an After Prom meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Ellinwood Library conference room. Plans are under way for the 2012 After Prom party and they would appreciate any help. Join them on Tuesday to help plan a safe and successful After Prom party. CPMS announces student of the month

BUSHTON - Central Plains Middle School is proud to announce Lee Letourneau as the October Student of the Month. Lee is the son of Troy and Bridget Letourneau and is in the 6th grade. Lee has one older sister, Shelby, who is a sophomore at Central Plains High School, and three older brothers, Wyatt, Kavet and Tyson who are in college.

BARTON COUNTY - The elm leaf beetle, which has recently made a reappearance in Barton County, is a relatively harmless beetle that may cause the leaves from the tree to drop, but should not cause permanent harm to a healthy tree, according to Jim Strine, Kansas Forest Ranger.
