Roosevelt Elementary School students in Hoisington are selling trash bags, which has been their fundraiser for the last 10 years. The bags come in three sizes: 55 gallon, 39 gallon, and 15 gallon. Students will be selling trash bags until Sept. 22. If you would like to purchase trash bags and no one has contacted you, orders can be taken at Roosevelt Elementary at 620-653-4470. Proceeds are used to fund activities for the students at Roosevelt.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Cardinals cross- country traveled to Wakeney yesterday to participate in the Trego XC meet.
This is Police Chief Dean Akings. Between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, a residence at 407 N. Main in Ellinwood was burglarized. The residence was not locked and there was no forced entry.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council, after an executive session, voted to purchase the property at 169 S. Main for a price up to $2500 for back taxes. City Manager Jonathan Mitchell explained that is was on the sheriff's sale for back taxes. The city wanted to keep the building available for a retail building.

HOISINGTON - The fall annual Cleanup Week for Hoisington residents will be Sept. 26-Sept. 30. Items for pickup should be curbside and sorted into piles by types of material on your regular trash pickup day.
ELLINWOOD - Visitors are welcome to visit the cow camps during the 150th anniversary cattle drive from Caldwell to Ellsworth. Visitors are welcome each evening until 7 p.m.

HOISINGTON - Hoisington Middle School volleyball continued its winning ways as it hosted and defeated the Ellsworth Bearcats on Thursday September 8th. The A, B, and C1 teams all won over the visiting and scrappy Bearcats. C2 lost their only match of the day.

HOISINGTON -At the recent Central Prairie League Forensics Tournament at Otis-Bison, seven Hoisington High School forensics students made it into finals, and five of them qualified for the State Championship. The team finished third out of eleven schools.

HOISINGTON - Superior Essex of Hoisington is announced the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Kent Schremmer, scrap operator, was named the first quarter 2014 STAR Employee and will be treated to a dinner in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
Each nine weeks Hoisington Middle School faculty and staff choose students who have shown leadership throughout the school. This can include being respectful to adults and students, improving in grades, being helpful in and out of the classroom and just showing leadership qualities.
