ELLINWOOD - The "Gathering of the Eagles" alumni event, which happens every three years, will be held this year during Ellinwood High School's Homecoming on Sept. 30.- Oct.1.
HOISINGTON - The annual Fall City Clean Up Week in Hoisington will be Sept. 26 -30. Residents should place items on their front curb on the regular day of trash pickup.
HOISINGTON- As fall approaches, so is the Community Harvest of Wellness Fair. Clara Barton Hospital and Clinics, along with community partners and sponsors, will offer this event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 as a way to provide important health and wellness information, raise awareness of health care resources available locally, and to offer free health screenings and low cost blood screenings.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood School/Community Library has some new books. They are:
Roosevelt Elementary School students in Hoisington are selling trash bags, which has been their fundraiser for the last 10 years. The bags come in three sizes: 55 gallon, 39 gallon, and 15 gallon. Students will be selling trash bags until Sept. 22. If you would like to purchase trash bags and no one has contacted you, orders can be taken at Roosevelt Elementary at 620-653-4470. Proceeds are used to fund activities for the students at Roosevelt.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Cardinals cross- country traveled to Wakeney yesterday to participate in the Trego XC meet.
This is Police Chief Dean Akings. Between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, a residence at 407 N. Main in Ellinwood was burglarized. The residence was not locked and there was no forced entry.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council, after an executive session, voted to purchase the property at 169 S. Main for a price up to $2500 for back taxes. City Manager Jonathan Mitchell explained that is was on the sheriff's sale for back taxes. The city wanted to keep the building available for a retail building.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood City Council, in its regular monthly meeting, heard an update on the cattle drive from Lloyd Kurtz.
HOISINGTON - The fall annual Cleanup Week for Hoisington residents will be Sept. 26-Sept. 30. Items for pickup should be curbside and sorted into piles by types of material on your regular trash pickup day.
ELLINWOOD - Visitors are welcome to visit the cow camps during the 150th anniversary cattle drive from Caldwell to Ellsworth. Visitors are welcome each evening until 7 p.m.
ELLINWOOD - A breakfast/brunch fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. A free will offering will be taken with proceeds going towards St. Joseph High School PSR mission trip.
HOISINGTON - At the Hoisington School Board meeting on Monday, the school board heard preliminary plans for separating the Hoisington Middle School Library into two rooms.
CLAFLIN - The Claflin Independent Township Library will celebrate National Library Week, April 14-19, showcasing the new copies of micro film of historic Claflin Clarion, Claflin Gazette and Claflin Banner newspapers and having an open house.
TOPEKA - On April 1, the state of Kansas formally declared the month of April as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month.

HOISINGTON -At the recent Central Prairie League Forensics Tournament at Otis-Bison, seven Hoisington High School forensics students made it into finals, and five of them qualified for the State Championship. The team finished third out of eleven schools.

HOISINGTON - Superior Essex of Hoisington is announced the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Kent Schremmer, scrap operator, was named the first quarter 2014 STAR Employee and will be treated to a dinner in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
