Well, the summer is about to pass us by, and school in Ellinwood is scheduled to start on Aug. 25. So here is a reminder for everyone. Watch for children riding their bicycles to and from school. We all need to be observant of the children walking as they cross at the intersections throughout the town.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington Main Street Inc. held a quarterly training session in Hoisington for the state-wide Main Street Inc. program with over 80 people from across the state in attendance last Thursday. On Friday, about 30 directors also attended the directors-only conference.

HOLYROOD - USD 112 teachers and administrators attended the Jostens Renaissance conference in Anaheim, Calif. to inspire students and staff to build a positive school atmosphere, generate school pride and promote education and attendance during their break this summer.
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish of Hoisington will be offering the parish basketball trophies from previous years (prior to 2009) by holding a Silent Auction at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall, 114 N. Main St., on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. Bids must be placed by 2 p.m. and trophies picked up before closing that day.
HOLYROOD - USD 112 Central Plains school district will begin a new wind energy program for their students to allow for education and some electrical generation.
Family and friends of Clayton Doll's are working towards helping Clayton fight Multiple Myeloma. This fight is made possible by the generous support and kindness of people like you. They are kindly asking for donations. The benefit will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at the American Legion in Ellinwood. This has been a very exciting week. I have enjoyed my five Canadian friends who come almost every year to hunt turkeys with their traditional archery equipment. They got three turkeys and departed on Thursday. Being up by 4:30 a.m. to get coffee and head out for 10 days in a row gives us time to re-affirm our friendship.

ELLINWOOD - A breakfast/brunch fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. A free will offering will be taken with proceeds going towards St. Joseph High School PSR mission trip.
