Welcome to the 4th edition of Marsh Musings. This week we will be focusing on a critter that carries a very negative stigma in the state of Kansas: the black-tailed prairie dog. Kansans' tend to either love or hate these critters. In Kansas, especially Western Kansas, prairie dogs are known as a destructive pest.

HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council heard good news last night when the Hoisington Community Development Corporation announced that they had a home and farm business considering opening a location in Hoisington in the old Duckwall store. It would create six new jobs for Hoisington.
HOISINGTON - The City of Hoisington is applying to become designated as an E-Community. When a community becomes designated as an E-Community, their donors help them to create a $125,000 in 75% Entrepreneurship Tax Credits.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood City Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the Ellinwood city offices.
HOISINGTON - The 28th annual Kansas State Demolition Derby will be held Sunday, Sept. 4 during this year's four-day Labor Day Weekend in Hoisington. The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual event. Rules and regulations are available at the Hoisington Chamber office, 123 N. Main, or call 620-653-4311.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor the Labor Day Float Contest for the Labor Day Parade to be held Monday, Sept. 5, during the city's annual Labor Day Weekend celebration.

ELLINWOOD - At its regular meeting on Tuesday, the Ellinwood City council discussed traffic flow in front of Ellinwood Grade School on Sixth Street.
This has been a very exciting week. I have enjoyed my five Canadian friends who come almost every year to hunt turkeys with their traditional archery equipment. They got three turkeys and departed on Thursday. Being up by 4:30 a.m. to get coffee and head out for 10 days in a row gives us time to re-affirm our friendship.

ELLINWOOD - A breakfast/brunch fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. A free will offering will be taken with proceeds going towards St. Joseph High School PSR mission trip.
