HOISINGTON - Superior Essex in Hoisington announces the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Gavin Klug, Jacketing Helper/Operator, was named the 4th Quarter 2010 STAR Employee and was recently treated to a luncheon in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
The seven communities on the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway will look to find the best in each other and learn more about the amenities that each community offers on March 29 and 30.
ELLINWOOD - At the upcoming April 5 election, six candidates are running for the USD 355 school board for four open at-large positions. They are: Gregory R. (Bob) Baker Jr., Patricia J. Berger, Becca Maxwell, Taunya M. Schlessiger, Dianna M. Smith, and Lori L. Thomas.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce has chosen a theme the 2011 Labor Day celebration. It will be "There's No Place Like Home."
Rotary Club of Ellinwood will hold their third-annual St. Patrick's Day Irish Stew fundraiser on from 5-7 p.m. March 17 in the Ellinwood High School commons area. Tickets are $5 per person for Irish stew, cornbread and cake. Drinks are provided and carry out is available. Tickets may be purchased form Rotary Club members or at the door. Proceeds will go to eradication of polio which is the Rotary International project in partnership with UNICEF and other non-governmental organizations.

ELLINWOOD -During Homecoming Week this year at Ellinwood High School, the student council decided to change things up. Instead of the typical red and blue adorning the hallways, things looked a bit pink. Pink for Breast Cancer, that is.

OISINGTON - Hoisington High School students will begin exploring careers in real-time in the real world instead of only in the classroom through a pilot program in the fall.

It is ""Eagle Time" in Kansas! It seems that we have had more eagles this year than any in my memory. All of the reservoirs have eagles in residence. I have located a couple of nests with eggs under these beautiful mothers. Both parents share the incubating duty that is 35 days, but the female spends most of the time on the eggs. "Bald ( or balde)" meant "white" in the old language, and this bird was declared the national symbol in 1782. HOISINGTON - The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Clara Barton Hospital, is conducting a capital campaign to raise funds for an expansion project. The campaign started off with a bang over the last few weeks as the staff completed their "Building Together… Caring for Life" Employee Campaign.
ELLINWOOD - USD 355 Ellinwood School Board approved in a special meeting, a new track, bleachers and fencing at the high school football field. Construction is projected to start the last day of track season and last all summer with a finish date of Sept. 1 in time for football season.
HOISINGTON - The city of Hoisington has received complaints about trash polycarts being left on the street long after trash pickup days, and, as a result is considering new rules.
