The USD 431 Board of Education will have a special meeting at 7 a.m. today for KASB Dues and legal assistance, workers compensation insurance, budget reportend-of-year, Providence Safety Sweep contract, July board meeting and personnel negotiations.

The Kansas Department of Transportation will have a survey team surveying US-56/K-96 through the city of Ellinwood starting the week of July 5, to plan for possible future roadway improvements. The survey work is expected to be complete in about four months on this 1.65 mile area. KDOT asks drivers to be alert to the presence of the survey crew and drive cautiously.

HOISINGTON - Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks game wardens Brian Hanzlik of Hoisington and Phil Kirkland based out of Stafford County played an integral role in the investigation of James and Marlin Butler, two men recently convicted in a deer poaching scheme.

HOISINGTON - The Hoisington 4-H Jets have worked hard getting projects ready and learning new skills for the Barton County Fair on July 6-10. The group showed their work at the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce coffee on Thursday.

The Kansas Bandmasters Association has announced that Sarah (Reif) Bricker, formerly of Hoisington, is the recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Young Bandmaster Award. The award is presented annually by Phi Beta Mu and the Kansas Bandmasters Association to a young director who has taught for less than seven years. She will be recognized on July 15 during the annual Kansas Bandmasters Association Convention in Wichita.

The city of Hoisington plans to spray for mosquitoes on Thursday and Saturday, weather permitting. The city will spray periodically and will not always be able to specify a date or time, according to a news release from the city. Weather conditions will also affect spraying times.
