ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce is holding its 7th annual Ladies Night Out from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on April 7 in Ellinwood. There will be specials and discounts, drawings, give- aways and refreshments.
HOISINGTON- Roosevelt Elementary in Hoisington will have preschool pre-enrollment for next school year on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. This will be for any child that will be 3- or 4-years-old on or before Aug. 31, 2011. Mildred A. Sayler, 91, died on March 30 at Sterling House in Great Bend. She was born July 7, 1919 on the farm in Banner Township, Rush County, the daughter of John and Frances (Smisek) Serpan.
ATCHISON - Virginia L. Jones, 93, of Atchison passed away March 25 in Miami, Fla.

HOISINGTON - Students that will be attending Kindergarten at Roosevelt Elementary in Hoisington for the 2011-12 school year will need to call Roosevelt Elementary to set up a screening appointment. ELLINWOOD - Barton County Extention Agent Donna Krug was present at the Heritage Club last week to encourage the seniors to eat food that is closer to the farm.
While we all know the answer to better health - drink more water, and eat more fruits and vegetables, the class served as a reminder.
HOISINGTON - The Hoisington High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members who have worked on STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) events competed in February at the District B competition in Plainville. There are two divisions in STAR events. The junior division is for members in 7th- through 9th-grades. The senior division is for members in 10th- through 12th-grade. Members compete at district level. If they receive the top score with a silver or gold, they advance onto state in April. The Ellinwood Garden Club met March 9 at the home of Debbie Tillotson. Jean Robinson, Denise Joslin, and Debbie Tillotson were hostesses. The meeting was called to order by President June Stephens and roll call and minutes were read by Mike Westerman, secretary.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood school board approved at its last meeting a bid from Bryant Construction for $82,320 for the construction a of bus garage subject to finding suitable land, according to meeting minutes.
ELLINWOOD - A breakfast/brunch fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. A free will offering will be taken with proceeds going towards St. Joseph High School PSR mission trip.
HOISINGTON - At the Hoisington School Board meeting on Monday, the school board heard preliminary plans for separating the Hoisington Middle School Library into two rooms.
CLAFLIN - The Claflin Independent Township Library will celebrate National Library Week, April 14-19, showcasing the new copies of micro film of historic Claflin Clarion, Claflin Gazette and Claflin Banner newspapers and having an open house.
