The Ellinwood City Council has three positions, and the Ellinwood District Hospital has two positions up for re-election at the April 5 general election. All five positions are running unopposed. They are Mayor Frank Koelsch, Irlan Fullbright and Gaila Nielsen for the city council election, and for the Ellinwood District Hospital, Lloyd Kurtz and Marvin Sessler.
LLINWOOD - The Ellinwood School/Community Library will host a special book signing for Barton Community College educator Linda McCaffery and Bill Brenner on Sunday, March 6, 1 to 3 p.m.
HOISINGTON - Thirteen Hoisington Middle School and eight Hoisington High School Kansas Association for Youth members recently attended a KAY Unit Conference on last week at Lincoln. Accompanying the group was their sponsor, Susan Lowry.
HOISINGTON - Card players learn the basics of bridge, or sharpen bridge skills with free "Modern Style Basic Bridge" lessons. A two-part series of bridge lessons will be offered on two consecutive Wednesdays, March 16 and 23 at 5-6 p.m. If you can, stay and play a couple hands after the lesson, enjoy a glass of wine, and have your questions answered.
ELLINWOOD -The Sons of the American Legion will hold its annual wild game feed on Saturday. Serving begins at 6 p.m. at the American Legion in Ellinwood.
This is Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings speaking for Crime Stoppers. Early morning on Feb. 8, three businesses in the 100 block of Main Street in Hoisington were burglarized. Entry to all three was by breaking the door locks in the alley of the businesses. A laptop computer, cash and a hard drive were stolen Loss and damage was $1,300.
HOISINGTON- This past weekend, the Hoisington Middle School Wrestlers competed in the Larned Mertens wrestling tournament.
Eldon Reif of Hoisington has been selected as a winner in the America's Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM program, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. The Monsanto Fund sponsors the program, and winning farmers designate a local nonprofit organization to benefit from the donations. Reif has designated Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation, located in Hoisington, to receive the donation.
HOISINGTON - At its meeting last Monday, by consensus, the Hoisington City Council agreed to leave the junked vehicle on private property ordinance as written.

HOISINGTON - At the Hoisington School Board meeting on Monday, the school board heard preliminary plans for separating the Hoisington Middle School Library into two rooms.
CLAFLIN - The Claflin Independent Township Library will celebrate National Library Week, April 14-19, showcasing the new copies of micro film of historic Claflin Clarion, Claflin Gazette and Claflin Banner newspapers and having an open house.
TOPEKA - On April 1, the state of Kansas formally declared the month of April as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month.

HOISINGTON -At the recent Central Prairie League Forensics Tournament at Otis-Bison, seven Hoisington High School forensics students made it into finals, and five of them qualified for the State Championship. The team finished third out of eleven schools.
