HOISINGTON - Both Hoisington Middle School and Hoisington High School established Kansas Association for Youth clubs in their buildings this year. KAY is an organization, offered through the Kansas State High School Activity Association, that teaches leadership and character through service. Each year these clubs earn points for the various projects that they do for school, community, nation and world. Both Hoisington clubs have chosen to earn the gold award. To earn the gold award there are several requirements one of which is earning 1,000 points in service.
HOISINGTON - To promote awareness of the Barton County-wide teen binge drinking problem, the Hoisington City Council and USD 431 will have a joint meeting on Jan. 3, 2011 at the Hoisington Activity Center. The state-wide Communities That Care survey showed that Barton County is higher than state average in binge drinking and liquor during the last 30 days.

Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation has announced that a fund has been established for 23-month-old Kaito Richter, Great Bend, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Wichita. He is the son of Amber Beverley and Nick Richter, Great Bend.
HOISINGTON - Dr. Kipp Van Camp of Topeka has written a book about his beloved dog Allie, a Bichon Frise and the special bond between a family and their pet, and will be in Hoisington for a book signing on 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
