HOISINGTON - Over 200 hundred students, advisors, and guests attended the District B FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference in Stockton on Oct. 19. Hoisington's own Kayla Reisner opened the meeting as the District B president. Shannon Manka is currently serving as the District B Vice President of STAR Events.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington School District USD 431 has received a grant for $43,362 to take a leadership role in providing Barton County school districts and communities with an alcohol and drug plan of action for teens. The grant is from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

HOISINGTON - The evening of Nov. 5 proved to be one of the most successful days for Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation as the organization hosted their first Mardi Gras/ Shrimp Boil and Auction to benefit Barton County children living with cancer both now and in the future.
HOISINGTON -FOCUS (Fostering Our Community's Unique Strengths) announces that Hoisington has received a sizable pledge to kick off their fundraising efforts to restore pride in Hoisington's Pride Park on East Third Street. FOCUS hopes to raise more than $80,000 to make much-needed improvements to the park.
ELLINWOOD -At the TMP-Marian Monarch Invitational debate tournament on Nov. 5, Ellinwood High School novice debaters Shiani Hughes, Tawny Arndt, and Rachel Schloctermeier won the novice division with a perfect 5-0 record. Hughes was also named top novice speaker in the tournament.
It is "Crane Season" in Kansas!! We have the sandhill cranes and whooping cranes both migrating through Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira Refuge. Sandhills are congregated in large numbers, and the whoopers give us a quick view of very special birds in the process (we hope) of re-establishing available population. Lots of money has been spent in support of the Whooping Cranes. One of the major concerns about their survival is the small number of birds and the limited DNA availability for the successful breeding and survival of the species.
