ELLINWOOD - The Barton County Courthouse Employee Relations Committee of Great Bend donated much needed items for the Ellinwood Food Bank. Chairperson Lorraine Rickert shared a bit of how the food bank began in Ellinwood when she accepted the donation with much gratitude.

HOISINGTON - Hoisington Middle School student Tanner Blackwell was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2010, has undergone chemotherapy treatment and will undergo a stem cell transplant this month in Houston.

CLALFIN - On a windy Memorial Day, Claflin residents and former Claflin residents were present at the Claflin Cemetery to commemorate those who died in military service and, in a separate ceremony, the beginning of the Claflin Ambulance Service.
HOISINGTON - A valuable service to Hoisington residents is the trolley service which is provided by volunteers. For only 25 cents, residents can ride the trolley anywhere within a mile of the city limits of Hoisington.
HOISINGTON - USD 431 Board of Education hired staff for several positions for the 2011-12 school year at a special meeting on Thursday. Jeb Detter was hired for fourth grade instructor; Miriam Bolyard for Spanish instructor; Katrina Edgerton for 4-year-old pre-school instructor; Bridgette Schneweis for .6 Title position; Janel Rugan for .4 Title position; Kathy Hoffman for .4 elementary counselor, Steve Husted for custodian to begin immediately and Zach Baird for summer weights assistant this summer.
