HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce has chosen a theme the 2011 Labor Day celebration. It will be "There's No Place Like Home."

Rotary Club to hold Irish Stew fundraiser

Rotary Club of Ellinwood will hold their third-annual St. Patrick's Day Irish Stew fundraiser on from 5-7 p.m. March 17 in the Ellinwood High School commons area. Tickets are $5 per person for Irish stew, cornbread and cake. Drinks are provided and carry out is available. Tickets may be purchased form Rotary Club members or at the door. Proceeds will go to eradication of polio which is the Rotary International project in partnership with UNICEF and other non-governmental organizations.

Claflin Fire Department reports news for Feb.

PSR students host guest

ELLINWOOD - St. Joseph Parish School of Religion students shared a class with a special visitor, newly ordained Bishop John Brungardt, the sixth Bishop of Dodge City Diocese. A soft-spoken man with encouraging words and provoking thoughts for all ages, Bishop shared a story of the prodigal son, a familiar Bible story to some. "What do you see on the Fathers face in this picture 'shown above'?" the Bishop asked the students. Student answers of love and forgiveness came forth, and they were right.

City to change special purpose vehicle registration fee

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood City Council voted Tuesday evening to change the golf cart and special purpose vehicle registration fee. The city changed the vehicle registration and proof of insurance to a one-time fee and showing of insurance, instead of annually.

HOISINGTON - Hoisington High School juniors and seniors will have a new opportunity for adventure with a trip to New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. scheduled for the spring of 2012.
