CLAFLIN -Rachael Stueder of Claflin has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). Rachael will be honored during an Induction Convocation this fall on the campus of Kansas State University.
During Fire Prevention Week, Claflin Elementary School pre-schoolers through second grade toured the Claflin Fire Department. Fire Prevention Week reaffirms the the importance of fire safety and awareness, and to pay tribute to firefighters, volunteers and first responders.
HOISINGTON - The USD 431 School Board heard a good audit report given by Ken Beran and Meagan Wellbrock from Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball at its Monday night meeting. The board voted to accept the audit as presented for the 2009-10 year.
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood Middle School student Michaela Hughes, one of the top readers in her school, presented the William Allen White Children's Book Award to 2010 grades 6-8 winner Cynthia Kadohata for her novel "Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam" earlier this month at Emporia State University.

ELLINWOOD -Ellinwood High School debaters fared well in two meets held on Saturday. Sophomores Connor Birzer and Jenna Snell won Sterling High School's junior-varsity tournament, placing first out of more than 30 pairs from 11 different schools. Hannah Maddy and Megan Orndoff also represented Ellinwood at the Sterling meet.

HOISINGTON -At the recent Central Prairie League Forensics Tournament at Otis-Bison, seven Hoisington High School forensics students made it into finals, and five of them qualified for the State Championship. The team finished third out of eleven schools.

HOISINGTON - Superior Essex of Hoisington is announced the latest recipient of the STAR Employee Recognition Award. Kent Schremmer, scrap operator, was named the first quarter 2014 STAR Employee and will be treated to a dinner in his honor, a customized gift pack, a plaque, and STAR Employee parking privileges.
Each nine weeks Hoisington Middle School faculty and staff choose students who have shown leadership throughout the school. This can include being respectful to adults and students, improving in grades, being helpful in and out of the classroom and just showing leadership qualities. To promote these qualities, students participated in a Leadership Luncheon on March 24th.
