On a sunny day in a place that Alvena Spangenberg loved, a statue of a little bronze girl, Emily, was dedicated to the long-time teacher and principal in the butterfly garden at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Spangenberg passed away on Aug. 12, 2012.

HOISINGTON - At its regular council meeting, the Hoisington City Council made a few changes to the solid waste ordinances due to the privitization of the utility, which were approved.
CLAFLIN - The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session, Monday, April 8 at the city building. Present were Mayor Michael Urban, Councilpersons Kirk Schneweis, Kelly Nixon, Casey Hubbard, Leon Oberle and Dan Michaelis. ELLINWOOD - The criterion for the Alan Fullbright Scholarship are a reflection of what was significant in Alan Fullbright's life. The 2013 scholarship recipients are Stephanie Troyer who will be majoring in Music Education and attending Barton Community College. She has held several offices in KAY, FBLA, International Club and was the Student Council secretary and vice president of her class.
