Hoisington Council meets

HOISINGTON - At its regular council meeting, the Hoisington City Council made a few changes to the solid waste ordinances due to the privitization of the utility, which were approved.

Claflin City Council meets

CLAFLIN - The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session, Monday, April 8 at the city building. Present were Mayor Michael Urban, Councilpersons Kirk Schneweis, Kelly Nixon, Casey Hubbard, Leon Oberle and Dan Michaelis. Also present were City Attorney Bob Suelter, City Clerk Patricia Schmidt, Robert and Jennifer Gunder, Richard Hayes, Doug Hubbard, Murine Prosser and Jeff Wasson. These are the unofficial minutes.

HOLYROOD - Jim Runge has been named the new superintendent for USD 112 Central Plains. He will begin his duties in July.

Students from St. Joseph School demonstrated their public speaking skills in the annual orations contest held on April 4. This contest is sponsored by the Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization. Students shared a presentations on this year's topic, "a person who has overcome." ELLINWOOD -The Ellinwood High School Mystic Blues will present its annual "After Dinner Theater" at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 and at 3 p.m.Sunday, April 21 in the Ellinwood High School Auditorium. The Mystic Blues are a singing and dancing group. Members have to try out each year.

USD 355 board taking steps for iPad initiative

ELLINWOOD - The USD 355 School Board, at its regular meeting Monday night, agreed to take another step in the iPad initiate. Currently, about twenty percent of the certified staff have iPads. The board agreed to buy approximately 30 more so that the remaining staff would have an iPad.

ELLINWOOD - At its regular monthly meeting, the USD 355 school board made two appointments to the new Ellinwood Recreation Commission Board of Directors. They were Mel Waite for four years, and Rob Fisher for one year. The ERC will soon begin planning a budget, hiring a director, and making plans for 2014.

Ellinwood Rotary announces theme for AHF Parade

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Rotary Club announces the 2013 theme for the After Harvest Festival Parade to be held at 10 a.m. July 2. This year's theme is "Home Is Where Our Story Begins." They are hoping registrants for the parade will incorporate this year's theme into their parade float.

HOISINGTON -On April 29 and April 30, the Hoisington Middle School vocal group performed its play "School Daze" at Roosevelt and Lincoln Elementary Schools. The vocal group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students from Hoisington Middle School.
