Ellinwood Food Bank in need of donations

The Ellinwood Food Bank is in need of some basic items. They are: hamburger helper dinners, macaroni and cheese dinners, tuna, canned meats, cooking oil, sugar, crackers dish soap and laundry soap. Drop items off at local churches or the Food Bank in the west entrance of the United Church of Christ. For more information, call 564-2660.

HOISINGTON - Over 200 hundred students, advisors, and guests attended the District B FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference in Stockton on Oct. 19. Hoisington's own Kayla Reisner opened the meeting as the District B president. Shannon Manka is currently serving as the District B Vice President of STAR Events.

Incentive Without Walls loan awarded

HOISINGTON - The Department of Commerce through its Incentive Without Walls (IWW) Program has approved a request by Hoisington Main Street, Inc. (HMSI) for funding of $20,000 to lend to Kindscher' Mule Barn. This is a competitive application process only available to communities in the State of Kansas who are part of the Kansas Main Street program.

USD 431 receives $43,362 grant

HOISINGTON - Hoisington School District USD 431 has received a grant for $43,362 to take a leadership role in providing Barton County school districts and communities with an alcohol and drug plan of action for teens. The grant is from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

HOISINGTON - The evening of Nov. 5 proved to be one of the most successful days for Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation as the organization hosted their first Mardi Gras/ Shrimp Boil and Auction to benefit Barton County children living with cancer both now and in the future.

Pledge secured to help enhance Pride Park

HOISINGTON -FOCUS (Fostering Our Community's Unique Strengths) announces that Hoisington has received a sizable pledge to kick off their fundraising efforts to restore pride in Hoisington's Pride Park on East Third Street. Ellinwood scores in debate

ELLINWOOD -At the TMP-Marian Monarch Invitational debate tournament on Nov. 5, Ellinwood High School novice debaters Shiani Hughes, Tawny Arndt, and Rachel Schloctermeier won the novice division with a perfect 5-0 record. Hughes was also named top novice speaker in the tournament.

USD 355 board taking steps for iPad initiative

ELLINWOOD - The USD 355 School Board, at its regular meeting Monday night, agreed to take another step in the iPad initiate. Currently, about twenty percent of the certified staff have iPads. The board agreed to buy approximately 30 more so that the remaining staff would have an iPad.

School board makes appointments

ELLINWOOD - At its regular monthly meeting, the USD 355 school board made two appointments to the new Ellinwood Recreation Commission Board of Directors. They were Mel Waite for four years, and Rob Fisher for one year. The ERC will soon begin planning a budget, hiring a director, and making plans for 2014.

Ellinwood Rotary announces theme for AHF Parade
