HOLYROOD - USD 112 teachers and administrators attended the Jostens Renaissance conference in Anaheim, Calif. to inspire students and staff to build a positive school atmosphere, generate school pride and promote education and attendance during their break this summer.
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish of Hoisington will be offering the parish basketball trophies from previous years (prior to 2009) by holding a Silent Auction at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall, 114 N. Main St., on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. Bids must be placed by 2 p.m. and trophies picked up before closing that day.
HOLYROOD - USD 112 Central Plains school district will begin a new wind energy program for their students to allow for education and some electrical generation.
Family and friends of Clayton Doll's are working towards helping Clayton fight Multiple Myeloma. This fight is made possible by the generous support and kindness of people like you. They are kindly asking for donations. The benefit will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at the American Legion in Ellinwood. Welcome to the 4th edition of Marsh Musings. This week we will be focusing on a critter that carries a very negative stigma in the state of Kansas: the black-tailed prairie dog. Kansans' tend to either love or hate these critters. In Kansas, especially Western Kansas, prairie dogs are known as a destructive pest.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Cattle Drive Committee is looking for vendors to set up for the Cattle Drive on Sept 17.
It is ""Eagle Time" in Kansas! It seems that we have had more eagles this year than any in my memory. All of the reservoirs have eagles in residence. I have located a couple of nests with eggs under these beautiful mothers. Both parents share the incubating duty that is 35 days, but the female spends most of the time on the eggs. "Bald ( or balde)" meant "white" in the old language, and this bird was declared the national symbol in 1782. HOISINGTON - The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Clara Barton Hospital, is conducting a capital campaign to raise funds for an expansion project. The campaign started off with a bang over the last few weeks as the staff completed their "Building Together… Caring for Life" Employee Campaign.
ELLINWOOD - USD 355 Ellinwood School Board approved in a special meeting, a new track, bleachers and fencing at the high school football field. Construction is projected to start the last day of track season and last all summer with a finish date of Sept. 1 in time for football season.
HOISINGTON - The city of Hoisington has received complaints about trash polycarts being left on the street long after trash pickup days, and, as a result is considering new rules.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team placed 6th at a tournament held at Southeast of Saline on Saturday, Feb. 22.
